Stranger Things Season 5 is fast approaching, and fans cannot stop thinking about some of the most memorable characters who won't be returning. Among them is Eddie, who died while fighting Demobats but left a lasting impact on the group, especially Dustin.
He was the one who found Eddie quite interesting and the two even had a BFF moment in episode 8 of Stranger Things Season 4. And since they had a great time together, Dustin won't forget Eddie that easily.
Gaten Matarazzo shared in an interview that Dustin has unconsciously adopted parts of Eddie’s personality and appearance. The actor said:
"There are subconscious changes, things that Dustin doesn't realize he's changed. There are ways his friends don't realize that he's changed."
He continued:
"But there's also a whole plethora of very specific choices on his part to change certain things about himself, to try to look like Eddie, to uphold his values and what he loved about Hellfire and D&D, and about people like him and Dustin and his friends."
In simple words, Dustin has become the younger version of Eddie Munson in Stranger Things Season 5. He doesn't realize this and it becomes a way how him to keep in friend's spirit alive.
Eddie Munson's impact on Dustin will play a key role in Stranger Things Season 5
When it comes to some of the standout characters from Stranger Things, Eddie will cross many minds. Portrayed by Joseph Quinn, he's a metal-loving, Dungeons & Dragons-obsessed senior at Hawkins High, who leads the Hellfire Club.
He's seen as an outsider because of his unique personality and becomes falsely linked to murders in Hawkins in Season 4 (thanks to 1980s "Satanic panic" vibes). Eddie's most chilling part comes when he confronts the Demobats.
But before that, Eddie became a close friend of Dustin, and that will be evident in Season 5. Though he's no more, fans can still feel Eddie's spirit through Dustin. The trailer also highlights Dustin having a bit of long hair, just like Eddie and some changes to his personality.
According to Matarazzo, Dustin’s efforts to imitate Eddie are actually a reflection of unprocessed grief. He’s trying to keep Eddie close by acting like him, something many young people do after losing someone they deeply admire. The actor said:
"It's tough to lose a person who's that influential to your confidence, and somebody you get along with so well."
The Stranger Things Season 5 star continued:
"It's a pretty natural process for somebody that young who is grieving to try to physically embody somebody they've lost, to try to keep them around..."
And apart from keeping Eddie's spirit alive, Dustin and his friends will go through pain once again now that Hawkins is once again in danger. And this time, it's the worst. Vecna himself tells Will that he needs to help him, suggesting that anything can happen in Stranger Things Season 5.
The first part of Stranger Things Season 5 will arrive in a few days, followed by part 2 on Christmas and the grand finale on New Year, that too in theaters in many places.
