In addition, Derek was once a bully, but Jake Conelly transformed him into an unusual ally. The ending was anchored in unadulterated emotion by Jamie Campbell Bower's return as Vecna, who was menacing yet actually just a curios kid who became a villain after being exposed to Mindflayer particles.
