Stranger Things Season 5 has finally arrived, and fans are already bracing themselves for an emotional rollercoaster. The last chapter of Netflix's popular series wastes no time reminding audiences that nobody is actually safe in Hawkins, Indiana.

After years of dealing with creatures from the Upside Down, the stakes have never been higher. The show's creators promised an unexpected conclusion, and the first part delivers. From unexpected casualties to gut-wrenching near misses, the first half keeps everyone guessing. The audience wonders which beloved characters made it through. Which characters were not so fortunate from the wrath of Vecna?

With Vecna's fear looming larger than ever, Stranger Things Season 5 proves that this final battle will cost more than anyone expected. Every sequence feels like it could be someone's last. The question is not just who lives anymore. It's about who can possibly make it to the end.

The casualties started almost immediately. An unnamed scientist working in Dr. Kay's laboratory becomes an accidental victim. Eleven and Hopper needed to hide during their escape attempt. When soldiers arrived looking for the duo, they opened fire on a cabinet.

The poor scientist was inside, defenseless and unconscious. His death turned into a tragedy and was completely unintentional.

The military suffered considerable losses in each episode. When the gates to the Upside Down opened unexpectedly, Demogorgons attacked the base. The aftermath of this resulted in soldiers getting brutally attacked with no time to prepare.

One alarming sequence displayed a creature literally stomping on a soldier's head. Another moment revealed Vecna himself attacking and killing a soldier in the most brutal death the show has ever shown. He drove his pointed fingers straight through the man's face.

Did any main villain die?

Lt. Robert Akers likely died, but his death was not explicitly confirmed. After surviving his first encounter with Hopper and Eleven, he made a huge mistake. He returned to alert Dr. Key about their location. When he led soldiers to capture them. Hopper retaliated, and Akers appeared to fall during the gunfire exchange. He was not seen afterward, suggesting he did not survive.

Lt. Colonel Jack Sullivan's fate remains equally unclear in Stranger Things Season 5. He bravely fought against the Demogorgon invasion. But Vecna turned Sullivan's own fire wall against him. The blast consumed the Colonel. His screams filled the sequence before the show cut away. Whether he survived those severe burns is not certain as of now. Most audiences suspect he did not make it.

What about the Demogorgons?

Will Bayers invited something powerful within himself. When his friends encountered threats from several Demogorgons, Will found his abilities. He destroyed several creatures without even touching them. His powers worked exactly like Vecna's killing method from the former season.

Every Demogorgon threatening his loved ones met a tragic end. This moment proved that Will has become incredibly risky when protecting those he cares about the most.

Who's still in Danger?

Ted and Karen Wheeler both survive their terrifying encounter, but barely. The Demogorgon attacked them as they tried to take Holly away. Karen suffered severe throat and chest injuries. She's hospitalized and still cannot speak. Ted fought back with a golf club but was quickly attacked. He stays in a coma, and both parents could still die in the second part of Stranger Things season 5.

Max Mayfield continues her sad journey in Stranger Things season 5. She is still in a coma at the hospital. The third episode revealed that part of her consciousness is stuck inside Vecna's memories. She is currently helping Holly navigate that terrifying realm. The question remains if both girls can escape alive.

Dr. Kay represents the human threat that will move forward. Her obsession with studying Eleven makes her extremely dangerous. She survived Hopper's attack in the fourth episode. But her relentless pursuit will likely lead to her failure.

What can fans expect moving forward in Stranger Things Season 5?

Stranger Things season 5 part 1 established that nobody has plot armor anymore. The second half will undoubtedly bring more damage and loss of life. Mike, Hopper, Lucas, Eleven, Dustin, and Joyce will remain at risk.

Vecna's ultimate plan is still unfolding. The Upside Down continues to take over the whole of Hawkins. Every character encounters difficult odds in the upcoming episodes.

Stranger Things Season 5 Part 1 delivered shocking deaths while setting up a devastating finale that will determine everyone's fate.
