It is no news that the popularity of the sci-fi series is unquestionably high. However, the excitement and anticipation created around the final season's release by Netflix and the cast and crew of Stranger Things was also no small feat. It turns out that the streamer ultimately crashed in their attempts to handle all the anticipation built around the final season.

Stranger Things Season 5 Part 1 was scheduled to release on November 26 at 5 PM ET, but for thousands of users around the world, at the time of release, the streaming application failed to work and showed error messages. More than 14,000 reports from the United States alone on the outage tracker website Downdetector reported that the streaming service had frozen and showed connection errors.

This issue persisted for almost five minutes, leaving viewers frustrated with the global streaming platform. In an official statement, Netflix acknowledged the outage and explained that it had been resolved within five minutes:

Some members briefly experienced an issue streaming on TV devices, but service recovered for all accounts within five minutes

Netflix has previously suffered brief outages during the Stranger Things Season 4 release, where the global streaming platform crashed for a few minutes when the final two episodes of the Duffer brothers' show were released. Ross Duffer had even revealed on his Instagram that Netflix had undertaken steps to ensure that the outage experienced during Season 4 would not be repeated in Stranger Things Season 5:

"Netflix increased bandwith by 30% to avoid a crash."

Nevertheless, the global streaming platform came back online pretty soon, and the exceptional Stranger Things fanbase was quick to start watching the first four episodes of the fifth and final season. To say that they had a massive cinematic experience waiting for them would be an understatement. For a majority of the fanbase, the three-year wait for this season was worth every second, as the first episode took us right back with Will in the Upside Down.

Now, we wait for the next batch of episodes, set to be released at Christmas, which will be followed by the series finale on New Year's Day.
