Stranger Things has given us plenty of reasons to love it. The kid gang, the nostalgia, their friendships, all feel too real to part ways with. Season 5 is coming soon and that'd be the end of it. The thought of never watching Stranger Things again after this year itself makes us feel a little too emotional for a fictional show. Almost all the characters have made a special place in our hearts.

But among them all, one character who entered late but almost immediately became the show's throbbing heart is Steve Harrington. He started out as a typical high school guy who's all popular and a bit self absorbed. But somewhere along the way he became the one person fans want to protect. Fans have watched him go from the boy who broke hearts to the man who saves them. And now with Stranger Things Season 5 coming up, everyone is terrified that this might be the end for him.

Steve has survived monsters and what not. He has fought the Demogorgon with nothing but a baseball bat with nails all over it. But fans know that Season 5 is supposed to be the show’s final chapter. And that sort of raises the stakes. Joe Keery plays Steve. He along with the rest of the cast and crew have, on several occasions, hinted in interviews that the ending will be utterly emotional.

This has made people wonder if Steve might be one of the sacrifices. And so viewers are nervous. Every time someone in Hawkins faces danger, Steve runs towards it. That kind of bravery comes with a cost in a show like this. And fans are preparing themselves for heartbreak even if they hope it never happens.

Stranger Things fans brace for a possible goodbye

Stranger Things is known for taking the most unlikely characters and turning them into heroes. Steve Harrington is the best example of that. He went from being Nancy’s boyfriend to being the protector of the kids. His friendship with Dustin became one of the most loved parts of the series. It is that growth that makes fans so attached to him.

We cannot imagine Stranger Things without him. He has shown that change is possible and that kindness can come from anywhere. It is this spirit of his that makes the idea of him dying feel unbearable to many.

On Reddit, fans are already sharing their reactions and fears about this theory. It has sparked debates, memes, and emotional posts. They all show how much people care about this one character. One user, Eran-of-Arcadia, wrote in a Reddit thread:

"If he dies, I die."

Another user, Botaratops, wrote:

"If he dies, we riot. Also, I don't want to see Dustin lose another close friend."

It makes sense that viewers are preparing for the worst. After all, this is a show that thrives on tension and emotional moments. The Duffers have a history of pulling at heartstrings. Steve’s possible fate feels like one of those emotional punches they might save for last.

However, some fans are still hopeful that their favorite hero might just survive Stranger Things Season 5. User holyhaleakala wrote:

"One thing in favor of this is that most 80s movies end with a happy ending of some sort and the Duffers have modeled ST after some great 80s movies. So here's to hoping we get that warm, happy ending that our faves have earned 🤞🏻🥹"

Steve Harrington in Stranger Things has become the kind of character who feels like someone we all know. He is brave but also flawed. He is funny but also loyal. He might make it out of the final season alive or he might not. Nevertheless his journey from being a self-centered teen to the heart of Hawkins is already complete.

Fans just hope that the show lets him live to see the light at the end. And if not, they are ready to make sure everyone knows how much Steve Harrington meant to them and what a hero he was.
