Vecna appears for a total of minutes in Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 1, but the terror and mystery surrounding him have been on the characters' minds for the entire duration of the episodes. The final episode of Season 4 found Nancy, Robin, and Steve setting Vecna's body on fire and shooting it up as well, so the Vecna we see in the fifth season is looking more terrifying and gruesome than ever.In a recent conversation with Deadline, Jamie Campbell Bower, who plays Vecna, aka Henry Creel, on the Netflix blockbuster, talks about how Vecna's changed appearance was brought to life in the final showdown on Stranger Things.Keep reading to find out more.Jamie Campbell Bower on Vecna's altered appearance on Stranger Things: "He’s still imposing when I’m stood facing off against another person"Vecna in Season 5 (Image via Netflix)Vecna has come back stronger than ever in Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 1. Even though he appeared for only a minute or so, fans were quick to notice his changed appearance this season. According to Jamie Campbell Bower, even though the process of his transforming into Vecna is a several-hour-long activity, the process of this transformation has been refined and intensified in comparison to the fourth season.Bower reveals that even though the eight-hour-long full-body transformation that he used to undergo for Season 4 of Stranger Things was "fabulous", this season was more of a collaborative effort between multiple departments, from BGFX to the VFX department:"So this season, for sure, is definitely more of a collaboration across departments, which for me, was really fun actually, because obviously I loved the full body process for Season 4. It was fabulous...but this season, what you’re seeing is predominantly prosthetics, from sort of here upwards (gesturing to the middle chest)"He then went on to add that he collaborated with multiple departments to bring his vision of Vecna to life for the fifth season of Stranger Things. William Campbell Bower also reveals that he asked the BGFX artist Barry Grover to make sure that his shoulders were larger in size so that he could give off a more imposing experience to anybody he stood against:What would be great is if we can just increase the size of the shoulders. So maybe let’s think about using something like American football pads, just to make sure that he’s still imposing when I’m stood facing off against another person. He also goes on to reveal his collaborative efforts with the VFX team and the artist Michael Maher. He mentions being reminded that he had parts of his body missing (after everything that has gone down in the Upside Down on Stranger Things Season 4, that makes sense). He then adds that he relayed this information to the BGFX team, who built that into his suit itself, thus making the whole thing come together in a perfect vision:"He was like, ‘So do remember that obviously you’ve got parts of your body missing.’ ... had built into the suit itself, sort of two blocks that I could just kind of put my arms down so I didn’t really have to worry about walking like this [gestures]. I could walk as Vecna without too much worry."All of these little details, including the six-inch rises in Bower's shoes, came together to deliver the most menacing version of Vecna we've ever seen on Stranger Things.Keep reading Soap Central for more such interesting insights into your favorite shows!
