Stranger Things concluded with high stakes and emotional moments that left everyone thinking about whether El (Millie Bobby Brown) made it or not. But that final show of storytelling from Mike Wheeler suggested that she may still be alive. Somewhere in the mountains, there’s a little town with three waterfalls.

The finale, too, made it to one of the best episodes of the show, but there’s still one episode that fans are talking about, which was review-bombed. Episode 7 of the final season sits as the lowest-rated one of the series. Now, the Duffer Brothers have addressed it in a recent interview with Variety. Matt Duffer told the publication that,

"No. I mean, no is the honest truth. Because it is, as Ross said, something we’ve been building for a really long time. I always say, Ross and I are many things, but subtle is not one of those things!"

The reason this episode was panned by fans is because Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) revealed that he doesn’t like girls. He was hiding this from the beginning, and Vecna was leveraging it by telling him that his friends would leave him once the truth was out in the open.

However, it turns out that everyone was fine with him being that way.

The grand finale of Stranger Things, called The Rightside Up, was not a one-man show. It took the entire Hawkins crew to take down the main antagonist, who turned out to be a part of the real Mind Flayer.

While the people outside tried to get rid of the Mind Flayer with flamethrowers, Molotov cocktails, and shotguns, Eleven was fighting Vecna, residing inside the Mind Flayer. As she tried to push him against one of the monster’s teeth, he attempted a final blow on her, which might have injured her.

However, it was Will Byers who saved the day. He was inside Vecna’s mind, trying to stop him. It is then that the big revelation happens in Stranger Things: it was always the Mind Flayer controlling him. Vecna, or Henry Creel (his real name), could have easily resisted the monster, but he chose not to. Now that Will wasn’t able to convince him that he isn’t the evil kind we all saw throughout the series, he had to do something about it.

So, Will manages to take control of the antagonist and breaks his hand, which then gives Eleven an upper hand, allowing her to penetrate him through one of the Mind Flayer’s teeth. If it wasn’t for Will, there would have been a chance for Vecna to overpower her and make things more difficult for the Hawkins crew on an interdimensional planet.

However, the final blow is given by Will’s mother, Joyce (Winona Ryder), who chops his head off in a fit of rage. That ended the story of Vecna in Stranger Things, and now we are set for the series spin-off, Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, scheduled for a release this year.
