Paramount+ has formally announced an ambitious new limited series, 9/12, starring Jeremy Strong, the Emmy-winning star of Kendall Roy in Succession at HBO, in the lead role. Its emotional resonance and politically charged narrative have already undergone a lot of hype in the project.

The show is about what happened after September 11, 2001; not about the events themselves, but the days and months that followed it, when mourning, bewilderment, and patriotism were in the air and redefined the American psyche.

For Jeremy Strong, who is known to approach character and intensity with great attention onscreen, 9/12 is his first big TV show since Succession concluded in 2023, and it is already positioning itself as one of the most anticipated drama launches on Paramount+.

The series is a political and psychological drama exploring how normal lives and institutions have been transformed forever following the September 11 attacks. Instead of focusing on the tragedy per se, the series is based on several stories that intertwine during the post-event weeks and address issues of identity, anxiety, and corruption.

Jeremy Strong will be a top-level lawyer: Jason Smith. His character is also said to be intelligent, idealistic, and more and more disillusioned, a man in conflict with himself regarding loyalty to his country and his conscience. The series will be a purported blend of actual history and the fictional narrative about how a national trauma changed the political landscape and individual lives.

He will spearhead a nearly ten-year legal fight to provide 9/11 first responders justice, and his unique character will oppose strong establishments, reveal corruption and treachery, and strive for restitution for the heroes who were deserted when they were most in need.

The presence of Strong has already brought expectations of the series to a high. His Succession won him an award, as his Kendall Roy was a critical success that earned him critical praise for being ambitious, frail, and morally torn - all of which make him an automatic choice to play a tricky character such as this one.

Universal Television and Anonymous Content are the creators of 9/12, which reintroduces Strong to a high-profile creative team. The show will be adapted and executive produced by John Logan (Penny Dreadful, Skyfall), and directed by Kari Skogland (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier).

Additional details about 9/12

The show 9/12 will be available on Paramount+, and will be a continuation of the upward trend of high-quality limited series as promoted by the platform. It is scheduled to start production in early 2026, and the movie will be shot in New York and Washington, D.C.

The show is bound to follow the theme of patriotism versus personal ethics, and how fear and power changed the post-9/11 world. Having a supporting cast that will appear in the film, led by Jeremy Strong, who has yet to announce his appearance in the project, 9/12 is expected to be regarded as one of the most ambitious and emotionally deep projects on the agenda of Paramount+.
