The Rookie star Nathan Fillion is quite busy these days. He is currently busy promoting his upcoming film, Superman, releasing on July 11, in which he plays Green Lantern. Besides that, Fillion has also recently filmed a portion of The Rookie season eight abroad.

Last month, Jenna Dewan (via @therookiebts) revealed that The Rookie team was filming in Prague, Czech Republic. Now, Nathan Fillion has elaborated on the topic in an interview with Anthony Anderson on Jimmy Kimmel Live, revealing his experience and why the team was shooting abroad.

In recent years, Nathan Fillion has been widely popular for playing John Nolan in The Rookie. But he has recently played Guy Gardner/ Green Lantern in Superman (2025).

Fillion had voiced Hal Jordan/Green Lantern in Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, Justice League: Doom, Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, and a few others. But this is his first time playing a version of Green Lantern on screen.

While he was on Jimmy Kimmel Live, promoting Superman, Anderson and Fillion talked about The Rookie Season 8. When the topic was brought up, Fillion said,

"We went off to Prague to shoot a portion of the premiere episode of season 8..."

While Jenna Dewan had earlier posted that the show's season eight was filming in Prague, Czech Republic, we didn't know why. But as Nathan Fillion points out, it was to film a part of the premiere episode of season eight, and thus the rest of the season will likely be filmed in LA like usual.

Anthony Anderson then asked Nathan Fillion,

"Can you tell us a little bit about that?"

Fillion responded,

"... It felt like I was shooting Casino Royale. I'm telling you, I'm in a suit, you're walking down these incredible streets. I love the history. There's so much history. This building was built in the 1400s, but behind it are the old buildings. This beautiful clock, and it's such a dark history, too. This beautiful clock, it was so incredible, they said after the fella made it, they went and burned out his eyes with a white-hot poker so he would never make anything so beautiful again. Like, these were tough times."

It seems Fillion has a great experience, and since he said it felt like he was,

"...shooting in Casino Royale,"

It seems like we might get to see some of the themes found in spy films in the season 8 premiere. This is also the first time the show has been filmed outside the United States.

While it is not confirmed, The Rookie team could be in Europe in relation to Monica Stevens. In season 7, we saw her get immunity from all American law enforcement agencies in exchange for crucial intel, which is highly precious to the United States government.

We also learn that she is in Europe. Hence, the team could be there in the season 8 premiere in relation to something she has done, or an attempt to arrest her without compromising the confidential intel.

It is unknown when filming on season eight will wrap up and when it will be released, but it looks like the premiere is aiming to be an exciting one.

Before season 8 of the police procedural drama comes out, you can watch Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern in Superman (2025), releasing on July 11, 2025, in theatres and Peacemaker season 2, premiering on August 21 on HBO Max.

The Rookie is streaming on Hulu.
