Supernatural ran for fifteen years.

From the 2005 premiere of the show to its final run in 2020, the show has been through its fair share of highs and lows. However, the loyal fandom that it has managed to create in this run remains the most special part of the show, even today, as fans line up to spend a few seconds with the stars.

Even this dedicated fandom, which crowds the conventions and the meet-and-greets, has its most and least favorite episodes.

From season 9 episode 20, titled Bloodlines, to season 1 episode 8, titled Bugs, or the controversial season 8 episode 15, titled Man's Best Friend with Benefits, the fandom has a lot of episodes that they like to pretend are not a part of the series.

Turns out, though, Supernatural stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles are right there with the fandom in their dislike for one of these episodes.

Supernatural stars Padalecki and Ackles find this one episode just as bad as the rest of the fandom

If you take it upon yourself to find out which episode the Supernatural fandom seems to hate the most out of the fifteen-season run of the series, it wouldn't take more than a minute through the multitude of Reddit threads for one particular episode to stand out.

The eighth episode of the first season, titled Bugs, is the one episode that the fandom dislikes with a singular passion. For some, it's the uninspired plot or its incapability to elicit horror, and for others, it's their general dislike for bugs. Whatever the reason might be, it still stands out as one of the most disliked episodes.

The dislike for this episode has now found an even stronger foundation, as stars Padalecki and Jensen have also rated it as one of the worst episodes on Supernatural.

In a recent conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Padalecki and Ackles revealed that everything the actors went through for that episode was not worth the result.

Ackles said:

"Yes, I think it was, because of what we went through and what it ended up being. Basically, the juice wasn't worth the squeeze."

From being in a room with like 70,000 bees to trying to swat them away for the scene without actually pissing them off and getting bitten, just for the bugs to never show up on camera, the episode was quite the hassle.

"We were shooting the episode, and they're like, "Listen, there's no queen bee here, so they're not gonna bite you. They're not gonna sting you unless you really piss them off." Well, how do you piss them off? "If you swat them." Wait, the whole scene is about us trying to get rid of bees. They're like, "Don't get rid of the bees, just guide them away. Gently guide them away". It was the most absurd thing."

The fact that the actors were forced to go through the hassle of "gently" swatting the bees away, trying not to piss them off or get stung, was just for authenticity. However, due to technical reasons, the bugs never even appeared on the screen, rendering all their efforts to be for nothing.

Finally, the bugs had to be VIXFX in the episode's post-production, as revealed by Ackles:

"We were literally being stung by bees. And then they get to post [production], and the bees didn't show up on camera so they had to VIXFX the bees."

So, even though Padalecki and Ackles agree with the fandom that Bugs is the worst episode of Supernatural, their reasons are more related to the filming process of it rather than the actual episode.
