Kyeong-do's past intertwines with the present in Surely Tomorrow Episode 1
The first episode of Surely Tomorrow starts with Park Seo-joon’s Kyeong-do stressing over an article that he is about to publish. The article is about a top actor’s affair. It can be understood that Kyeong-do is deeply impacted by the situation.
It is then revealed that the actor’s wife is Kyeong-do’s ex-girlfriend. It is also depicted that he is impacted by anything related to her, even today. He then meets up with his friends to discuss this difficult situation. They try to understand his condition, but also point out that he is making his past dictate his life. Kyeong-do then gets called back to his office.
The article he wrote has already been published. The article Kyeong-do wrote is creating a chaotic situation for the actor along with his wife. At his office, while working, Kyeong-do opens a picture of his ex-girlfriend, Ji-woo. He begins to think about her.
The scene then brings forth a flashback moment. Surely Tomorrow shows Kyeong-do’s first interaction with Ji-woo in 2007. They met at Kyeong-do’s college. Seeing Kyeong-do’s innocent attitude, Ji-woo was instantly attracted. The two of them went to drink. Though Kyeong-do is reluctant to drink, Ji-woo persuades him. After drinking quite a lot, Ji-woo leaves.
Kyeong-do wakes up the next day completely hungover. He is also not able to stop thinking about Ji-woo. Searching for Kyeong-do, Ji-woo enters the room. She finds him waiting for his next class. She then takes him away to have food. At the restaurant, Kyeong-do is quite uncomfortable.
This is because of the way Ji-woo speaks to him. Despite the fact that they do not share a friendly bond, Ji-woo tells him to catch up for drinks once again. Later, Ji-woo reaches the venue to meet Kyeong-do. Right the moment Ji-woo is about to enter, she gets a call from her mother. Her mother's words are quite condescending.
She tells her to be more serious with her life. Hearing her mother's disappointed tone, she returns without meeting Kyeong-do. Kyeong-do leaves for his home. On his way, he sees Ji-woo sitting all by herself. He did not want to interact with her. Yet he could not leave her alone at night, knowing that it could be dangerous. They then take the bus together. Ji-woo even asks for Kyeong-do’s number. The scene then cuts back to the present day. Kyeong-do finds out that Ji-woo is searching for him. He keeps trying to avoid her.
Right when Kyeong-do leaves his office, he finds that Ji-woo is waiting for him. Ji-woo tells him that she is going to England. She also thanks him for the article he wrote. She is free now because of the article. She then continues to tell him about her heartbreaking situation. She felt “miserable” throughout her marriage because of her husband.
She then tells Kyeong-do to write one more article, but this time it should be about her divorce. Kyeong-do is completely shocked to hear about her demand. This episode of Surely Tomorrow ends with a significant, gloomy note. The stage is set for more intense moments. It can be understood that the emotionally turbulent moments between the two of them are yet to start.
