S.W.A.T. Exiles, the spin-off of the 2017 show S.W.A.T., is currently in development and is going to follow Daniel Harrelson, who has now returned from retirement to lead a new task force. Except his job is much more complicated now because he has to work with new, untrained recruits.
Shemar Moore will be reprising his role as Sergeant II Daniel Harrelson in the spin-off. According to the upcoming show's premise, new characters are going to be introduced, but as Variety reports, two legacy actors from the original show S.W.A.T. are going to appear in the spin-off in guest roles.

Shemar Moore isn't the only actor from the original show who is reprising his role from the original show. As Variety reports, legacy actors Jay Harrington and Patrick St. Esprit are also going to be reprising their roles as Sergeant David Kay and Commander Robert Hicks, respectively. They both are set to appear in guest roles in the pilot episode of the spin-off.

Sergeant II David Kay was a longtime SWAT officer with over a decade of service. Though he was initially overlooked for promotion in favor of Harrelson, he came to respect Hondo’s leadership and accepted his role as second-in-command. Known by the callsign 30-David, Deacon mentored teammates, trained recruits at the academy, and remained deeply committed to both his squad and the city.
Other than S.W.A.T., Jay Harrington is known for playing Steve Taylor in Coupling, Paul Ryan in The Inside, Dr. Ron McCready in Desperate Housewives, and Mark Meadows in Suits.

Commander Robert Hicks was introduced in season one in a recurring role and became a series regular from season two to eight. He was a senior officer in the LAPD’s Special Operations Bureau. A widower and close family friend of the Kays, he had two children, Molly and J.P.
Patrick St. Esprit is also known for playing Commander Romulus Thread in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Hugh Killian in The Chicago Code, and Colonel Louis Wysession in Narcos.
With Shemar Moore leading the cast, S.W.A.T. Exiles is produced by Sony Pictures Television and developed by Jason Ning. The show is executive-produced by Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Shemar Moore, Jason Ning, and James Scura.

S.W.A.T. Exiles has yet to be picked up by a network, but it is set to start filming soon. Its predecessor ran on CBS for eight seasons from 2017 to 2025. S.W.A.T. was cancelled in 2023, but then renewed for a seventh and then for an eighth season. But it was not renewed for a ninth one. Thus, a S.W.A.T. Exilesis is in the works. Given that CBS cancelled the original show, it is unlikely that it will pick up the spin-off.
There's still time for S.W.A.T. Exiles to be picked up by a network. Besides, it seems like the creators, producers, and the production company are confident enough to go forward with production before a network picks the show. Stay tuned for more updates.
S.W.A.T. is streaming on Paramount+.
