AMC's supernatural horror spy thriller Talamasca: The Secret Order is gearing up for its season finale. The penultimate episode, titled "The Palace Puzzle," delves into several plot points, including Jasper and Guy's uneasy alliance gone wrong, a sneak peek into Helen's childhood, and, lastly, Olive's betrayal.

Here's what happened in Talamasca: The Secret Order Episode 5

Talamasca: The Secret Order Episode 5 recap- Doris saves Guy from Jasper at the London Mother House

The episode picks up seconds after last week's cliffhanger, and there's no slow build-up; the alliance between Jasper and Guy combusts, turning suspicion into violence. Jasper's desperation for answers transforms into rage the moment he realizes Guy is still hiding the truth about Doris. What begins as an interrogation turns into a duel. Jasper asks Guy about who saved him in the Westcroft Hotel, but he refuses to tell the truth.

Guy, terrified and cornered, finally sees how powerful Jasper is. But the twist hits fast; Jasper never intended to kill him quickly. His plan is far darker, letting the revenants feed slowly. Amid the confrontation, Doris appears and saves Guy. What follows is a fiery fight between Doris and Jasper, and Doris almost burns Jasper. However, Jasper survives the fire since vampires don't die so easily.

Talamasca: The Secret Order Episode 5 recap- Helen lies to Olive about Guy and Jasper

Doris and Guy escape, but Jasper orders his revenants to hunt them down. At this point, the two turn to Helen for help in escaping the country. While conversing with Helen for the first time, Guy stops being passive. He demands help, forces acknowledgement, and this conversation exposes the power imbalance he has silently endured.

Helen, torn between protocol and conscience, chooses compassion. At this point, it appears that Helen genuinely cares for Guy and has grown protective of him. She asks Guy and Doris to hide in a safehouse and lies to Olive, leading everyone to believe that everyone is with the witches. Olive's betrayal is delivered quickly, as she watches Jasper's revenants massacre innocent witches.

Amid the chaos, we also get a sneak peek into Helen's childhood, but the episode does not give in any pivotal details as such.

Talamasca: The Secret Order Episode 5 recap- Olive's betrayal and Doris and Jasper hide at the safe house

Olive's betrayal does hit hard, especially as she watches Jasper's revenants search for Guy and Doris on a train that they were supposed to be on board, and she's seen reporting this to someone else, too.

Elsewhere, in the Talamasca safehouse, Guy continues to yap about his mother, and Doris just listens to him. His pain lands not as rage but sorrow, marking one of the show's most human scenes so far.

Their quiet refuge is tinged with dread, especially when a shot reveals Doris may be hiding Keves' book; it could be the 752, the very object that everyone's hunting. However, she says that it is Keves' journal. Now, if that's Keves' journal, there was no need to be so secretive with it. The episode never answers whether she is a victim, survivor, or strategist, but it ensures that she's hiding her true intentions.

Episode 5 is easily one of the most layered chapters of the season; it's a blend of psychological warfare, moral ambiguity, and emotional rupture. One thing is certain: no one escapes the Talamasca untouched.
