Nicholas Denton, who stars in the new show Talamasca: The Secret Order, has shared a simple but surprising fact about his preparation for the series. In a recent interview with TV Insider, he said that he has "not yet" read Anne Rice's original novels that inspired the universe around the show. This stood out to many fans because Anne Rice's books are seen as the core of this world.

They are often called the "OG novels," and they are the source of the main ideas, themes, and stories that many fans know well. Because of this, some people may expect the lead actor to know those books already. But Nicholas Denton made it clear that he has "not yet" done that.

"That's not I'm going to take that all as soon as this is all over. I think that's going to be a nice way for me to reflect on it and think about, you know, what's to come for Talamasa."

The series falls under the universe created by Anne Rice and is associated with Interview with the Vampire.

Why did Nicholas Denton want to wait to read the novels?

In the interview, Nicholas Denton explained more about why he waited. He said the books were long and detailed. He felt they might take too much of his attention during filming and made it clear he was not avoiding the books. He was simply waiting for the right time.

He also mentioned that other people around him were reading the novels. One cast member told him that the book was "amazing." He talked about how relevant some themes in the books still are. He mentioned ideas about identity and self-discovery. He said,

"And it's it's just crazy to me that it was written 1985."

Nicholas Denton also said he finds it quite interesting how the novels feel so modern and relatable to many.

"But I think that's what makes it so like Ann Rice's work so ubiquitously accepted like everyone from different crew like different worlds subcultures the queer community they can access this and feel accepted in I mean, that's what I felt."

Connection to the Ann Rice universe and what comes next?

Nicholas Denton confirmed that Talamasca: The Secret Order takes place in the same universe as Interview with the Vampire. He said the stories are linked and that the show fits between Seasons 2 and 3 of Interview with the Vampire.

He talked about filming big scenes with many extras, and that some scenes had 80 to 100 extras. Nicholas Denton said that many of them were fans of Anne Rice's work. That made him realise how wide the reach of the books really is. This also made him more aware of the importance of the original novels.

He shared a moment from set where the cast filmed a club scene with no music. He said it felt strange but also intense as everyone stayed in character and focused. He talked about how filming scenes like that helped him understand the darker and mysterious tone of the story.

Nicholas Denton also explained that his character, Guy, enters the Talamasca without knowing much about the supernatural world. He said his character even thinks the idea of vampires is "absurd" at first. In the end, he mentioned that had he read the books prior to filming, it might have inhibited his performance of the character due to prior knowledge limiting him from experiencing the character in the same manner as he did. Towards the end of the interview, Nicholas Denton expressed the desire for Season 1 to lay the foundation for things to come, saying that he is excited to find out where the story goes from here.
