In the finale episode of Task, Maeve is allowed to keep the bag of Money. As Robbie orchestrates the plan, arranging a duffel bag to be converted to a bag of cash, Maeve was supposed to receive it for her children and herself. Shelly delivers the money to Maeve, but the Dark Hearts are also coming for the money.

After the scuffle, Tom Brandis first finds the bag, but he hesitates, as deep down he cares for Maeve's niece and nephews, who are her responsibility now after Robbie's death. Tom understands they needed a fresh start. This is why he chose not to report the money and allowed Maeve to keep it.

In the finale scene, Maeve is shown driving off with her kids into a new life. It is not outright shown if she has the bag or not, but the events denote the same. Moreover, Emilia Jonas, who plays Maeve, in an interview with Variety, comments that Maeve must think about herself and her niece and nephews now that she has the opportunity.

As mentioned, after Jayson and Maeve face off in Task, Tom Brandis and Dark Hearts also arrive at Maeve's house for the drug money she has earned after selling the drug Robbie had stolen from Dark Hearts. It was Tom who first found the bag after the climax. Technically, Tom should have put that in his reports so the police or the DEA could have seized it, but he chose not to report the bag.

Tom's deep sense of remorse was guiding his hands when he allowed Maeve to keep the drug money instead. Tom had been feeling guilty of not being able to raise Ethan properly, and this thought, somewhere, made him let Maeve move out with the money so that she could give a better life to herself and the kids. He knew that they needed a fresh start, and it was obvious that the bag with the million dollars was their key to a better future. Therefore, he gives a second chance and lets Maeve keep the money.

Here is what Emilia Jones, who plays Maeve in Task, says about her character's fate

While speaking with Variety, the actress who plays Maeve in Task, Emilia Jones, reveals that the money was like a lifeline for them and for her character, it was a chance to escape the cycle of poverty and danger she was trapped in. She also expressed how she thinks Maeve should think about herself, too, along with the kids.

"I hope that she can build a nice, comfortable environment for her and the kids, and give them the life that they deserve after such a hard start. I also really hope that she can kind of do things for herself for once, since she’s so young and her whole kind of younger years have been shouldering so much adult responsibility."

She is also mourning the death of Robbie in Task episode 7 and had to make the kids deal with it, too. Jones also talked about the filming of the climax scene as they all were under pressure and it was a lot challenging than they had expected.

"We were all aware that it was the climax of the show, and there was immense pressure for us because we wanted to make sure that we could do it the best that we could. We did all of our own stunts, and it was so much fun and challenging because I was using my body in ways I’d never used it before."

Therefore, this shows that though Robbie's plan worked, it cost his life, and now Maeve is given an open chance to rebuild her life from scratch, away from the poverty and crime she was involved in.

Task ends on a hopeful note for Maeve, but it doesn’t show every detail of what her “new life” will be like or how she’ll handle the long-term consequences.

Task is available to stream on HBO Max.
