"That man is crazy and that girl is a bad communicator!": The Bear's Ayo Edebiri explains why Sydney and Carmy would never blend well

Do you follow The Bear? If so, you might be surprised by what Ayo Edebiri said about Sydney and Carmy's bond in this comedy-drama.

Though the show mainly focuses on Carmen "Carmy" Anthony Berzatto’s journey of building up his late brother’s sandwich shop, the show also features budding romance.

The Bear's Ayo Edebiri explains why Sydney and Carmy would never blend well

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Ayo Edebiri explains that though the viewers are eager to see Sydney’s bond with Carmy grow beyond the current professional dynamic, in reality, Sydney’s contrasting nature with Carmy would create disruption:

“That man is crazy and that girl is a bad communicator!”

She adds:

“But I do think it’s professional, and I do think if anything were to happen, it would not be the show that we’re making. And I also think it would be so crazy. That man is crazy and that girl is a bad communicator! The restaurant would blow up in like three seconds if anything ever happened.”

She also speaks about how, through the seasons, Carmy and Sydney’s relationship has changed:

“Carmy is somebody that I think she’s really looked up to, but now is sort of in the thick of doing business with, and it’s, I think, a lot more chaotic than she might have idealized before they really started working together.”

Although it would be nice to see Sydney in love with someone in The Bear, Carmy would complicate the storyline, according to the 29-year-old:

“The relationship that Ayo and Jeremy have is so special and really different from the relationship that she has with Ebon and the relationship that she has with Lionel. There is this really special thing where they all took the assignment really seriously and became friends in different ways.”

The Bear can mostly be said to have workplace comedy. The relationship between Sydney and Carmy is of a platonic nature. Both of them are fiercely dedicated to the craft. Their dedication shines through the series. This is why many fans wish to see the two of them together. The manner in which these two characters communicate is also quite different.

Christopher Storer, creator of The Bear, in an interview with Variety, explains,

“We wanted to make something that was about friendship and a partnership. It really is so funny that that is one of the things that people took away — of all the heavy shit that’s going on in the show! It was interesting because Ayo and Jeremy, since they are our friends and are such wonderful people, I think there is this charisma that comes off both of them. From the beginning, it was like, we should just show people being really good at their jobs and pushing each other. Selfishly, I hadn’t seen a show without a romantic plot and was like, that could be kind of cool and interesting.”
