Connor Storrie, the breakout star of Heated Rivalry, ascended from relative unknown to one of television’s most talked-about young actors. This week delivered one of the most surreal moments of his burgeoning career, when he appeared on the Shut Up Evan podcast with host Evan Ross Katz.

The Texan actor plays the cocky and intimidating Russian hockey player Ilya Rozanov, who develops a forbidden secret fling with his arch-rival Shane Hollander, the shy Montreal Captain played by Hudson Williams, in HBO Max's sensational queer hockey drama.

Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie was left starstruck during a recent appearance on the podcast when acclaimed actor Andrew Scott unexpectedly called in with a message just for him. Scott, celebrated for his transformative work in Fleabag, All of Us Strangers and Ripley, surprised Storrie with a thoughtful question about his inspirations and future aspirations.

Despite his quick rise, Storrie’s response to Scott’s message was refreshingly grounded, as he managed to get out a “That's crazy” after Scott's message.

More on Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie's sweet moment with Andrew Scott in our story.

All about Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie's fanboy moment with Andrew Scott

During his recent appearance on the Shut Up Evan podcast, Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie had his 'I made it' moment when one of his idols, Andrew Scott, surprised him with a wholesome question. The 25-year-old Texan actor (who pulls off an impressive Russian accent on the show) was taken aback when host Evan Ross Katz introduced Andrew Scott as one of the callers on the show. Storrie was visibly shocked to hear a pre-recorded message from the Fleabag actor, who is one of his heroes in Hollywood.

The Heated Rivalry star certainly took his sweet time before answering Scott's question as he sat mouth agape, trying to take in this moment. Meanwhile, Andrew Scott continued with his message on the Shut Up Evan podcast:

"Hello, Connor, it's Andrew here. Congratulations on the show. All actors have other performers that they admire and look up to from childhood or from the start of their career, and I'm just wondering who that might be for you. And if you have any plans ever to do theater, or where you see yourself going after this enormous success."

After a moment of pure joy, Storrie finally revealed his 'almost meeting' with Andrew Scott:

''Wow, that's crazy. That's actually really crazy. I love him. I actually used to work out at the Equinox (the gym) in West Hollywood, Calif. I used to see him all the time, [but] never got up the courage to say hi."

While the actor could not muster up the courage to meet his idol in person, he finally got a chance to chat with the actor, thanks to his recent stardom after Heated Rivalry. After his much-deserved fanboy moment, Connor Storrie answered Scott's question as:

"I was always into the Buster Keaton sort of thing. I was super old school, the kind of like vaudevillian thing."

Connor Storrie gets emotional over sudden Heated Rivalry fame

If you spend enough time online, you’ve likely seen swoon-worthy edits of Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie as lovable goofballs. The post-Heated Rivalry frenzy has turned the actors into overnight rising stars within days. Storrie, who is best known for portraying the inmate who killed Joaquin Phoenix's Arthur Fleck in the legal drama thriller Joker: Folie à Deux, expressed gratitude and shock over his sudden rise to fame.

In a wholesome moment on the Shut Up Evan podcast, Storrie got teary-eyed and addressed the recent reactions to his performance on social media, including the comments calling him 'America's a**', after his intimate moment with Williams' Shane in Heated Rivalry. Ahead of the premiere, the actor admitted to being genuinely nervous about portraying Ilya, a fan-favourite character from Rachel Reid’s Game Changers book series. However, Connor Storrie’s spot-on performance as the Russian hockey star has since taken over social media, proving he delivered with flying colours.

After five episodes of yearning, angst, lust and eventual love, Shane and Ilya will finally spend some much-deserved quality time at 'The Cottage', the title of the final episode of Heated Rivalry, which will conclude the freshman season. However, worry not, as the sophomore season is on its way, which will likely adapt Reid's The Long Game.

Tune in to 'The Cottage' on HBO Max on December 26.
