The Bear Season 4 has been released on Hulu, and like its past seasons, season 4 is gripping, humorous, and entertaining. The show continues the story of Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) Berzatto, an award-winning chef who returns to his hometown to take over his deceased brother, Michael's (Jon Bernthal), sandwich shop.
Something the show heavily explores is Carmy holding the sandwich shop together despite having to deal with family trauma, grief, and a difficult staff. We see him struggling, but doing his best to keep the business running. Amidst all this, we get glimpses and pieces of his relationship with his brother Michael, who died by suicide.
In The Bear Season 4's first episode, we get a deeper insight into Carmy's relationship with Michael through flashback scenes and a series of texts he has sent Michael even after the latter's death.
All texts Carmy sent Michael after his death, revealed in The Bear Season 4
The first episode of The Bear Season 4 sets the stage for the rest of the season. The episode opens with a flashback scene, where we see Mikey (Michael) and Carmy have a conversation while Carmy cooks marinara sauce. Mikey tells him how there's too much garlic in the sauce, and then the conversation goes on to more serious topics.
Mikey tells Carmy how the car rental business did not go well, and then Carmy says he wants to open up a new restaurant. To justify his idea, he tells Mikey how people love going to restaurants and how opening one together would be a good idea. This is one of those rare moments that tells us how much love the Berzatto brothers shared despite family trauma and their personal struggles. Mikey agrees to Carmy's idea, and we thus have The Bear.
Later on in The Bear Season 4 episode one, we see Carmy in the present, sending a message to Mikey, even after his death. We also see that he has sent other messages to Mikey after his death. The messages show 'Not delivered', and he knows Mikey cannot read those messages or respond, but he still sends them. The oldest message he has sent (the oldest one we are shown) reads,
Miss you bro
The next one was sent on 21st January, a Saturday, and it said,
Found the tomato cans
This text is a reference to the time Carmy found $300,000 in tomato cans, which Mikey had left for him. It was Carmy's way of saying thank you, despite knowing the message would never reach Mikey.
The next one was sent on 18th April, a Wednesday, and it said,
You were right about Claire Bear
This message is a reference to when Carmy reconnected with Claire Dunlap in season two.
The next one was sent on 26th May, a Friday, and it said,
Thinking of you today
This message was sent on the day The Bear opened its doors, and it is understandable why Carmy thinks of his brother on that day.
The last one is sent at present time, saying,
The restaurant was called Kerrigan's
This message is a reference to the conversation Carmy and Mikey were having in the flashback at the beginning of The Bear Season 4 episode one. When Carmy was pointing out how much people loved restaurants, he said how even their dad loved them, saying,
''I don't know, the only time I can remember him being even remotely happy, was when he would talk about that, uh, Irish place he loved so much.''

Carmy opens his phone to send the text after reading the word Kerrigan in the train he had boarded, which reminded him of the restaurant's name, which their dad used to love.
Carmy is still sending Mikey messages, showing how much he misses his brother, and wants to share every big and small moment with him. It is a reflection of his love, but also his grief, and makes us understand him a little better.
The Bear Season 4 and all previous seasons of the show are streaming on Hulu.
