The Beauty is an upcoming sci-fi body horror series from FX by Ryan Murphy and Matt Hodgson. The show is based on a comic book series by Jeremy Haun and Jason A. Hurley that offers a blend of horror, sharp social commentary, and thrilling mystery.

The show holds a mirror to the dangerous cost behind perfection and society’s perception of it. The platform has recently greenlit the release date, and The Beauty will premiere on January 21, 2026.

The Beauty release and streaming details

The first three episodes will air together, followed by the weekly release of new episodes. The first season will debut with 11 episodes in total. The weekly release allows for a slow unfolding of the story.

Episodes will premiere on FX before landing in the streaming scene. Internationally, the series will be released on Hulu and Disney+. The series unfolds in a world altered by a new phenomenon known as “The Beauty.”

It is a sexually transmitted virus that strangely makes anybody appear more attractive. At first, this phenomenon seems unusual, but eventually, The Beauty becomes global.

All the nuances and standards disappear. But the effects do not stop there. The virus comes with deadly and horrifying consequences. As bodies begin to mutate and people start dying, the truth behind The Beauty begins to surface.

The story traces how two FBI agents investigate the spread of the virus. As they dig deep, they are confronted with a wild conspiracy involving powerful corporations and hidden experiments.

What starts as a mystery in the medical world takes a dark turn pretty soon. The show leans heavily into body horror while also exploring themes of vanity, power, and control.

The cast of FX's new body horror

The cast is led by Evan Peters, who plays FBI agent Cooper Madsen, and Ashton Kutcher portrays a tech billionaire with a direct connection to the spread of The Beauty. Rebecca Hall appears alongside Cooper as fellow agent Jordan Bennett. Anthony Ramos stars as a gritty and unpredictable figure known as The Assassin. Jeremy Pope plays a key role tied closely to the virus and its effects.

The supporting cast includes several notable names, including Isabella Rossellini (recurring). The show also features guest appearances from actors like Billy Eichner, Ben Platt, Vincent D’Onofrio, Peter Gallagher, and Bella Hadid. The large ensemble reflects the wide reach of the virus and its impact on society.

Production on the show began in late 2024. Filming initially took place in New York City, with music by Mac Quayle. He is a frequent Ryan Murphy collaborator. His score is expected to heighten the series’ unsettling tone.

With a strange, disturbing context in which the show’s tale unfolds, the high-profile cast, and strong creative backing, the show is gearing up to debut as a glamorous body horror series. When it premieres in January 2026, it aims to challenge how viewers think about beauty, desire, and the price of perfection.
