The Better Sister, Prime Video's latest murder mystery, presents an intriguing premise paired with a captivating cast. The show follows two sisters as they navigate a murder within their family. Chloe Taylor's life is thrown into a frenzy when her husband, Adam Macintosh, is murdered in his own home in The Better Sister. Her perfectly curated life as the editor-in-chief at the Real Thing magazine and stepmother to Nicky Macintosh is thrown for a loop, and she's forced to connect with her estranged sister Nicky (Ethan's mother and Adam's ex-wife). We're just going to let it sit out there - yes, she's married to her sister's ex-husband.
Jessica Biel got her acting start at 7th Heaven in 1996, where she continued as the lead-up until 2006, after which she was also seen in hit series like Candy and The Sinner. She also worked as a voice actor on Bojack Horseman.
Nicky Macinkosh, played by Elizabeth Banks
When compared to her sister, Nicky's life is not as put together as her ex-husband's new wife's, and to make things even worse, she has a history of substance abuse. However, when she finds out that her ex-husband was killed, she ends up at her sister's penthouse apartment to support her family during this difficult time in The Better Sister.
Elizabeth Banks, a household name at this point, was seen in massive franchises such as Pitch Perfect, The Hunger Games, and her breakout role was in the 2002 Spider-Man.
Adam Macintosh, played by Corey Stoll
Previously married to Nicky, Adam had a son with her. However, after their separation, he began a relationship with her sister Chloe and even ended up marrying her. Working as a hotshot lawyer, Adam's life seems picture-perfect until he's found murdered in his home. His murder thus becomes the starting point for this murder mystery.
Corey Stoll is no newcomer in this business, and you'll probably have seen him on hit shows and movies like Midnight in Paris, Ant-Man, House of Cards, Rebel Moon, Twilight of the Gods, and Billions.
Nancy Guidry, played by Kim Dickens
Nancy Guidry is one of the detectives assigned to Adam's murder investigation. She is among the strongest characters in The Better Sister and is highly observant. Her suspicions immediately focus on Chloe and her son when she takes on the case. Additionally, she mentors Matt Bowen (played by Bobby Naderi), a younger detective, as she attempts to sweet-talk people into revealing clues regarding the case.
Kim Dickens had her breakthrough role in Deadwood. She was also seen in hit shows like Fear of the Walking Dead, House of Cards, Night Lights, Sons of Anarchy, and Gone Girl.
Ethan Macintosh, played by Maxwell Acee Donovan
Ethan Macintosh is Adam and Nicky's biological son and Chloe's stepson and nephew (still so weird). Surprisingly, he gets along great with his stepmother, Chloe, but has a difficult relationship with his father, who is worried Ethan is being negatively affected by all the wealth in their lives. However, surprisingly, Ethan ends up as the prime suspect, along with Chloe, in his father's murder investigation.
Maxwell Acee Donovan would be considered a newcomer, seeing as he's pretty young, but he played Nate on That 90's Show and was also seen in Gabby Duran & The Unsittables, The Thundermans, and War Dogs.
Additionally, Lorraine Toussaint stands out as Catherine Lancaster, Chloe's boss and mentor, Gloria Rueben as Michelle Sanders, Gabriel Sloyer as Jake Rodriguez, and Matthew Modine as Bill Braddock.
