The synopsis of The Better Sister Episode 6, 'Steadying Hand,' reads:
"The sisters take the stand, but what truth will they tell? Guidry's temper flares."
The episode opens with a flashback where we see Adam in a church confessing to his complicated relationship with his son, Ethan. He says:
"He stole my gun. What was he gonna do we that? I can't get a straight answer out of this kid. What's he capable of?"
Just outside the courtroom, more drama unravels as Ethan's biological mother, Nicky, confronts her sister Chloe for not giving enough attention to Ethan. They roll into a physical altercation, and when Michelle finally separates them. The Better Sister Episode 6 recap: Chloe makes her move and an enemy
Chloe is no longer playing defense. In this episode of The Better Sister Episode 6, she steps fully into power-digging through Adam's computer files (Gentry Group files), flirting with danger, and taking her shot in the court. She turns over a USB to the FBI, but when Agent Olivero threatens her, instead of helping her, he tries to assault her.
That's when Chloe decides to play dirty. Her testimony against Adam isn't just explosive; it turns the case totally. She talks about their affairs, claims abuse, and subtly frames Jake. Her words hit harder because, for the first time, even Nicky is confused. But Jake's silence proves there is much to the case that is yet to be revealed.
The Better Sister Episode 6 recap: Nicky finds her voice and a gun
The episode peels back Nicky's past and pain with haunting precision. Through AA meetings, flashbacks, and raw conversations with Ken, she begins owning her history, not as a recovering addict but as a mother who has long believed that she failed her son. But when Chloe and Nicky find Adam's gun, Nicky's impulse is to use it to mislead and save Ethan.
Chloe persuades her to trust Michelle's strategy instead, leading to one of the most emotional moments of the series. The estranged sisters reconcile briefly, for Ethan's sake. As Nicky utters:
"Let's bring him home."
Even though in court, the prosecutor grills her with hard questions and paints her as an unsupportive and alcoholic mother, Chloe's statements clear Ethan of the second-degree murder charges. But beneath Nicky's calm lies a storm. As she drove alone to their home, the camera pans towards her purse, and we see a gun.
The Better Sister Episode 6 recap: A verdict and a new suspect
The trial reaches a fever pitch when Jake is dragged into the spotlight. Chloe frames his motive, Michelle drills him with hard questions, and his refusal to answer any of those adds fire to the growing suspicion. As he constantly utters:
"I refuse to answer on the grounds that it may incriminate me."
Still, Michelle reminds the jury that there's no murder weapon, no clear timeline, and no evidence placing Ethan at the scene. Ethan is found not guilty. But the relief dose doesn't last long. Back at home, he confesses to staging the bloody shoes to protect Chloe-because he believed she killed Adam.
When Chloe asked him about the shoes, Adam confessed:
"Same reason I broke the glass. I was trying to protect you. Because I thought you did it."
As the screen turned black, her stunned silence speaks volumes. Could Adam be right?
The Better Sister Episode 6 reshuffles all our assumptions. It casts new light on every character, every motive. With a weapon now in play and loyalties fractured, The Better Sister sets the stage for a high-stakes finale where truth might cut through the lies
