The Big Bang Theory is known for its clever humour and the friendships it nurtured for twelve seasons (2007-2019). Kunal Nayyar, who played Rajesh Koothrappali on The Big Bang Theory, said on The Official Big Bang Theory Podcast's episode titled 'The Grasshopper Experiment' with Kunal Nayyar, that he apparently,

"was the worst in the beginning on the show"

Well, he did not admit to being the worst at acting or experience, but worse when it came to holding in laughter while shooting The Big Bang Theory. Kunal Nayyar explained that he called himself the worst because he

"broke all the time."

Kunal Nayyar played Rajesh Koothrappali for twelve seasons of The Big Bang Theory and was part of the main cast. In the show, Raj is a particle astrophysicist from New Delhi, India. When he was younger, he struggled with a condition called selective mutism, which made it hard for him to talk to women unless he was drinking alcohol. He also has gentle, traditionally feminine interests and often plays a more sensitive role in his friend group.

Over the course of The Big Bang Theory, Raj starts to grow emotionally. He dates Lucy, a woman who also deals with social anxiety, but their relationship doesn’t last. A big step in his progress comes when he is finally able to speak to Penny without needing alcohol, showing that he's beginning to overcome his mutism. He then begins a relationship with Emily Sweeney, and they eventually become a committed couple.

In the final season of The Big Bang Theory, Raj gets engaged to Anu, a hotel concierge from India, though their relationship has its ups and downs. However, in an interesting move, the creators leave him single at the end of the show. It highlighted his growth, how he had grown to love himself instead of constantly looking for love.

Kunal Nayyar was a guest on the latest episode of The Official Big Bang Theory Podcast titled 'The Grasshopper Experiment' with Kunal Nayyar. On the podcast, Nayyar spoke about him breaking character often in The Big Bang Theory, saying,

"It really pissed everyone off, but I couldn't help it,"

Nayyar also went on to explain to host Jessica Radlof how he would have a hard time trying not to laugh when he did scenes with Simon Helberg (who played Aerospace Engineer, Howard Wolowitz, saying,

"I would also break a lot of my own jokes, which is funny. But I mean, how can you [not], Simon is a genius,"

Nayyar also talked about,

"the beauty of Simon as an actor and a performer - even a simple line like, 'Friday works for me.' Just the cadence, like, 'Friday works for me!'"

Nayyar then shouted in Helberg's signature tone that he used for Howard. Kunal Nayyar also explained that one of the main reasons he would break character was because he had so many scenes with Simon Helberg. Nayyar added that working with Helberg made it

"very hard for me to keep a straight face."

All seasons of The Big Bang Theory are streaming on Max, Prime Video, and Hulu.
