It's been almost six years since The Big Bang Theory wrapped up, yet the charm of this duo lingers. Sheldon Cooper and Penny's heartwarming friendship brought heart and humor to the show. But did you know the onscreen friends had a rift in real life? As per Jessica Radloff's 2022 book on The Big Bang Theory, Kaley Cuoco and Jim Parsons were not on talking terms before the show ended in 2019.
Even though Cuoco and Parsons did sort out their differences in a few days, years later, the reason for the conflict makes sense.

The Big Bang Theory stars' conflict makes sense after years
One of the primary reasons why The Big Bang Theory wrapped up after twelve seasons was due to Jim Parsons' unavailability. It's quite tough to imagine TBBT without Sheldon Cooper in it. However, it was not a fair move for the others involved, for the cast and crew who dedicated at least a decade of hard work and devotion to the project.
CBS was ready to renew The Big Bang Theory for next season, but Parsons' decision to quit changed the scenario. When the news of the cancellation of The Big Bang Theory reached the cast, many of them were not pleased. For instance, Johnny Galecki revealed that he was quite shocked, not due to Jim Parsons' decision, but that the production took no steps to arrange a conversation with the cast. Steve Molaro recalled how Cuoco wasn't happy with the decision. As per Radloff's book (via BuzzFeed), he said,
"I got a text that morning from Kaley saying she didn't know if she could work that day because she was still really upset. Upset with Jim. ... The first run-through back was kind of icy and none of them were talking between scenes, but everyone was professional."
Molaro further added that Kaley Cuoco and Jim Parsons had sorted out their differences within three days.
After Cuoco's interview with People in 2024, her reaction seems justified. She revealed,
"I spent 12 years playing that role, and it really set off my career. I owe a lot to that character, to that show, to [creator] Chuck Lorre. It was some of the best years of my life, and some of the most fun I've ever had. I would absolutely reprise that role."
Cuoco's passion and dedication to the sitcom were among the reasons why she reacted so emotionally. After TBBT ended in 2019, Cuoco was a part of several projects, including Harley Quinn, Role Play, Meet Cute, and The Man From Toronto, to name a few. Some of her upcoming projects include the TV mini-series Vanished and another one called Kansas City Star.
