The Boys Season 5 is still approximately a year away from its release date. But the Prime Video gritty superhero series has fans chomping at the bit for an update on the show as it's filming its final season. The fifth season of The Boys will surely tie in a lot of storylines that were set up in the previous four seasons. However, despite all the setup in the previous four seasons, two characters are yet to share the screen.
The two characters are none other than The Deep, as played by actor Chace Crawford, and Hughie, played by Jack Quaid. This is surprising considering the important role that The Deep plays in The Boys, but, indeed, the two haven't interacted with each other yet. Thus, The Boys Season 5 has a chance to rectify this little error.

Hughie and The Deep must interact in The Boys Season 5, considering the latter's role:
In the very first season of The Boys, The Deep set the plot in motion by taking advantage of the young superheroine and new joinee of The Seven Starlight/Annie January. This event tarnished The Deep's reputation in The Boys Universe, even if The Seven rehires him in the latter seasons. The Deep is set to grow even more powerful in The Boys Season 5 now, as Homelander is in charge of everything.
Despite the big role that he plays in the series, he hasn't interacted with Hughie, who is Annie's girlfriend. The previous season ended with Hughie imprisoned for his role in opposing The Seven. Now that Hughie is in custody, there are chances that The Deep and Hughie will share the screen for the first time in the series on The Boys Season 5.
What is The Boys Season 5 about?
The fourth season ended on a rather somber note as Homelander emerged victorious as he is effectively the most powerful man in the US, even if he is not the president. Right upon attaining power, Homelander declares that all of his enemies, i.e., Hughie, Marvin/Mother's Milk/M.M., Kimiko, and Frenchie, are in danger of imprisonment. This scene sets the stage for The Boys Season 5.
As of now, we don't know much about The Boys Season 5, as it is still filming. On May 19, 2025, the cast and crew involved in the series sat down for an interview with Deadline's Lynette Rice. There, they had some interesting teases to offer for the fans. Eric Kripke was the first one to speak:
“There will probably be lots of deaths” and “there’s no guarantee of who’s gonna survive.”
Then, Nathan Mitchell, the actor who played Black Noir in all four seasons (Mitchell plays a completely new version of Noir in the fourth season), further added:
“There are some things that are coming in Season 5 that you’re not going to have in your bingo card.”
The Boys' fifth season currently does not have a release date, but we know that it is coming out somewhere in 2026. But that does not mean that we won't know what the next season is about. Gen V Season 2, which releases on September 17, 2025, is expected to set up the fifth season of The Boys.
