The Boys Season 5 teaser trailer was screened at the CCXP panel on Saturday, and the release date for the final season was also revealed. One of the highlights of the teaser trailer was Supernatural actor Jared Padalecki's unnamed character. Padalecki is not the only Supernatural actor who is in The Boys Season 5, as Misha Collins and Jensen Ackles are also in it (Ackles is returning from season 3).

But adding stars from the iconic CW favorite is not the only way The Boys is paying homage to Supernatural. The song the teaser trailer plays is also a reference to Eric Kripke's CW hit.

The song in The Boys Season 5 teaser trailer was also played in Supernatural:

Twelve seconds into the teaser trailer, the song Renegade, starts playing. For those who don't know, Renegade was created by the band Styx in 1979. But the use of this song by Kripke in The Boys Season 5 teaser trailer has fans nostalgic because the number appeared in the twelfth episode of Supernatural Season 2. Therefore, this song feels like a callback to the CW hit.

What do we know about season 5?

Chronologically, The Boys Season 5 takes place after the Gen V Season 2 finale. Homelander is the de facto ruler of the US. The trailer shows us glimpses of the "freedom camps" across the US for Homelander's enemies. However, the teaser also reveals something major: Billy Butcher and the rest of the gang are reunited.

If you remember, Butcher's relationship with the rest of the crew looked irrevocably strained after The Boys Season 4 finale, when he killed Victoria Neuman. However, it seems that things are dire in season 5, which is why it seems that MM, Frenchie, Hughie, Annie, and Kimiko have teamed up with Billy Butcher to take down Homelander's oppressive regime.

"In the fifth and final season, it’s Homelander’s world, completely subject to his erratic, egomaniacal whims. Hughie, Mother’s Milk, and Frenchie are imprisoned in a “Freedom Camp.” Annie struggles to mount a resistance against the overwhelming Supe force. Kimiko is nowhere to be found. But when Butcher reappears, ready and willing to use a virus that will wipe all Supes off the map, he sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change the world and everyone in it. It’s the climax, people. Big stuff’s gonna happen."

Consisting of eight episodes, season 5 begins streaming on Prime Video on April 08, 2026. The Boys Season 5 will kick off that day with a two-episode premiere, and the rest of the six episodes will be released weekly. The Prime Video press release confirmed this release strategy while announcing the release date:

"Today, Prime Video ignited CCXP Brazil as more than 3,000 fans packed the Thunder Stage and witnessed the long-awaited announcement that the fifth and final season of The Boys will premiere on April 8, 2026. Showrunner and executive producer Eric Kripke took the stage alongside series stars, Erin Moriarty, Laz Alonso, Karen Fukuhara, Tomer Capone, and Colby Minifie for a diabolical celebration of the series. The panel revisited the most shocking, fan-favorite moments from the landmark series, before offering an electrifying first look at what’s ahead in the epic final chapter with the official teaser."

The statement further continued:

"Season Five of the multi-Emmy Award-winning The Boys will premiere on April 8, 2026, with two episodes, followed by a new episode each week, culminating in the unforgettable, epic series finale on May 20, 2026. The season will stream exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide."

Binge the first four seasons of The Boys as we wait for the fifth season.
