Netflix has ordered a new crime drama, The Case, starring Jakob Oftebro and Peter Andersson, which is being written by George Kay, known for writing another Netflix show, Lupin. While production on Season 4 of Lupin wrapped up this month, George Kay has already written a new Swedish crime drama series, The Case, which will have five episodes.

The show has just finished shooting in Stockholm, Sweden, and it will likely be released on Netflix in 2026. As Deadline reported, it will follow a lead investigator who is trying to find the serial killer who is killing his colleagues. To find this killer, he has to work with his father, from whom he is estranged. The show stars Jakob Oftebro and Peter Andersson as Thomas and his father, Alfred, respectively.

Everything we know about The Case

The Case will be released in five parts and will follow a lead investigator's personal and professional struggles as he has to work with his father to find out who is killing the other police officers he works with.

As per Deadline, the show's official logline reads:

“As endless summer takes its hold over Stockholm, a different kind of darkness sets in. Clean cut, highly regarded lead investigator Thomas Berg has a serial killer on his hands. With the brutal murderer targeting his police colleagues, Thomas makes a desperate gamble, turning to a once well-regarded but now out of favour, misanthropic ex-detective for help. His estranged father, Alfred. If they’re to stand any chance of protecting their fellow police officers, they must put their differences aside and find a way to work together. Only then will they catch one of the worst killers in Sweden’s history.”

Pagler, Henrik Norlén, Magnus Krepper, Anders Mossling, Irina Björklund, and Anna Maria Käll. Created and written by George Kay, the show has been directed by Kristoffer Nyholm.

Speaking about the show, George Kay told Deadline:

“I’m thrilled to be working on The Case with the Nordic Netflix team, New Pictures and B-Reel Films – the best possible partners in crime... They have assembled a wonderful cast and crew, all under the leadership of director Kristoffer Nyholm. The Case is part father-son love story, part criminal thriller. A series that brings darkness… even to the endless Stockholm summer.”

Kay and Nyholm are also executive producers along with Willow Grylls and Matt Sandford, Johannes Åhlund, and Ulf Synnerholm. Other writers of the show are Aron Levander and Emilie Robson. The production companies behind the show are B-Reel Films, Observatory Pictures, and New Pictures.

As per the outlet, the Vice President of Nordic Content at Netflix, Jenny Stjernströmer Björk, said:

“George Kay has an extraordinary gift for crafting suspenseful, character-driven stories that captivate audiences worldwide. We’re thrilled to collaborate with him, Kristoffer Nyholm and to reunite with B-Reel Films on this bold new take on Swedish crime.”

The Case is aiming for a 2026 release on Netflix.
