More about The Chosen creator and the Season 6 crucifixion scene
Dallas Jenkins is the creator, director, and co-writer of The Chosen, and he has given fans a significant update on the much-anticipated crucifixion scene set for Season 6 and in a recent interview with Variety, Jenkins confirmed that filming is underway in Italy, using the same iconic location as The Passion of the Christ. He said,
“Filmmaking is very hard. I don’t love it. I always love having done it. So I’m excited to bring it to the world when it’s done, because I think that we’ve written something and are about to film something very special and unprecedented in any portrayal of the crucifixion ever done."
The scene, which will mark one of the most pivotal moments in the life of Jesus Christ (played by Jonathan Roumie), will also be released as a standalone feature film by Amazon, highlighting the importance of this episode in the series’ journey.
According to Jenkins, the next scene of the crucifixion is "very special and unprecedented.” This indicates that the production has created a never-before-seen depiction of this Biblical event, and Jenkins admitted that he felt anxious and overburdened, but he was happy with the finished outcome.
He thought that viewers would be greatly impacted by the story and the visual storytelling, and underlined that although filming is challenging, the work they are producing is bold and aspirational in both its aesthetic and emotional aspects.
With the impending crucifixion scene, The Chosen is about to enter its most potent chapter. Despite the fact that this scene has been in several well-known movies, director Dallas Jenkins promises a new and poignant interpretation, and he has also discussed the portrayal of Judas majorly in Season 5.
The program examines his internal battle rather than portraying him as merely a villain. Judas once believed in Jesus, followed Him, and worked miracles. However, he anticipated that Jesus would be a political figure rather than a nonviolent savior. Judas's treachery becomes more painful and personal as a result of his secret agreement to assist the temple guards due to his uncertainty and disillusionment.
As The Chosen Season 5 concluded, the tension reached a breaking point, and the finale depicted the Last Supper, with the disciples emotionally shaken by Jesus’ revelation that one of them would betray him.
Religious leaders, including Caiaphas and Ananus, plotted behind closed doors, and Judas made contact with them through Shmuel, setting the betrayal in motion. Meanwhile, Mary Magdalene was taken to meet Nicodemus in a surprise return, and Simon Z narrowly escaped a Roman patrol.
