The Copenhagen Test Season 1 Episode 5 is a turning point in Alexander Hale’s life because he has finally decided not to be controlled by The Orphanage and started going about doing things his way.

The hour starts with Alexander taking a train ride and entering a very specific dead zone where the biohack in his head cannot pick up its signal. During his only moment of privacy, he leaves a video message to Victor. In a very candid way, Alexander presents all that he has found out since finding out that he was hacked. He confesses to his increasing paranoia, his anger at the mysterious nature of The Orphanage, and his feeling of betrayal. He is still concerned about the need to defend his country, but one thing is clear: he does not trust the agency that has been playing with him.

In The Copenhagen Test Season 1 Episode 5, the flashback to the year 1989 in Fairfax, Virginia, gives background to the history of Alexander. As it turns out, Victor’s mission in China ended up ruining the lives of Alexander’s parents, making them collateral damage. As a way of apologizing, Victor assisted them in fleeing with forged papers and starting a new life in America.

Victor was asked by the then-pregnant mother of Alexander to swear that he would guard the child. This vow gives us the explanation of how Victor was connected to the whole life of Alexander and what made the parents of Alexander work so hard to assimilate into American society.

In the present, Alexander starts to distrust everyone. He meets Michelle but is reserved and closed off, which worries Parker and Ellie. Little does Alexander suspect that The Orphanage is already using him as a decoy, putting on an elaborate act to entice the Lone Wolf, aware that they are under surveillance.

The Orphanage tasks Alexander and Remy with the mission to retrieve a vital flash drive that is attached to Mosaic. They are told that this is a standard operation. As a matter of fact, Moira aims at using Alexander to get the Lone Wolf into a trap. In another safe briefing, Alexander receives altered low-dose compounds that are supposed to disable the target without killing him. Moira clarifies that whatever would follow the capture will be addressed way above clearance by Alexander.

Parker remains uneasy. She sees that Alexander is socially closed off, does not talk to Michelle, and that no one knows what Alexander will do next. Even so, the mission proceeds. St. George silently evaluates Alexander, and he even promises Moira that he can see through the job.

In The Copenhagen Test Season 1 Episode 5, Alexander makes an unexpected appearance at Michelle’s apartment before leaving for Paris and ends their relationship. Their relationship was never official, but the break is final. With the feeling that her security is at risk, Michelle goes off the grid, retrieves her passport, and hides in a church. Later on, Alexander apologizes to Rachel that he never gave her a chance to see him clearly, another hint that he is now very isolated.

Later, Parker manages to locate Michelle and persuade her to come back, saying that the mission is not over yet, and what Alexander had done was not in the plan. Michelle is still doubtful, as she knows that after the operation she will be dispensable, but she is willing to be there.

Alexander and Remy manage to retrieve the flash drive in Paris in a theater. The extraction, however, very soon goes awry. The extraction agent is killed, and a new one arrives, and it turned out to be Schiff. The Orphanage, in the U.S control room, nervously watches facial recognition confirm his identity, which is returned as classified. St. George slips out of the room as soon as she looks at his face.

Simultaneously, in The Copenhagen Test Season 1 Episode 5, it is disclosed that Cobb has called on the assistance of the CIA, as he believes Alexander to be a mole. CIA agents come in, and the extraction goes wrong. Soon, Alexander discovers that Schiff is the Lone Wolf, the hacker who has been spying on him. Taking action, Alexander drugs Remy to get him out of the killing field and tries to arrest Schiff himself.

The scenario gets out of control as a gunfight between The Orphanage and the CIA erupts, and Schiff gets a chance to escape. Cobb sees Schiff on the monitors and is shocked to see that he is his uncle. Schiff is hesitant when Cobb approaches him, appalled to find no one appears to know their relationship. Schiff almost kills Cobb, but Alexander saves him.

When Schiff runs off, Alexander shoots at him but ends up focusing on the task of the mission. He gives the flash drive to Cobb and asks him to take it to The Orphanage. As a way to buy time, Alexander had stored the drive in a Faraday cage before, which prevented it from being tracked.

Alexander keeps following Schiff in a car, and he leads him to a place that has no signal, an underground place, in the city. In the meantime, Michelle uncovers an underground message by Alexander telling her to evacuate clean before things get even more out of control.

Back at the Orphanage in The Copenhagen Test Season 1 Episode 5, things are getting out of control. Parker becomes more frustrated because the operation runs out of their hands. Victor eventually hears and sees a recorded message sent by Alexander and understands how far Alexander has gone out of their reach.

During the last moments, St. George consults a personal book he had as a boy and reads the name Schiff wrote with the mark “1989, Berlin,” which proves a long-lost relation between Schiff and The Orphanage. The Copenhagen Test Season 1 Episode 5 concludes in the basement, where Alexander runs into Schiff, who is quietly making tea in a secret kitchen.

Schiff notes that Alexander will not murder him, since he is the only one who can give him the answers that Alexander has been seeking. He asks Alexander to sit and talk.

The Copenhagen Test Season 1 is now streaming on Peacock.
