Channel 4’s The Couple Next Door is one of those shows that keeps the viewers hooked with its steamy romance and twisted turns in the plot. While Season 1 had established these central themes of the show, Season 2 maintains them, but with a difference in terms of the dynamic between the involved couples.

Talking about how The Couple Next Door Season 2 differs from season 1, writer David Allison said,

“The first series was about two couples that collided with each other – a square. Whereas this is more two love triangles with Charlotte and Jacob within those triangles, one with Mia and one with Leo. So the dynamic is really different.”

The central couple of season 2 is Charlotte and Jacob, who seemingly have a perfect life with their jobs as a surgeon and an anaesthetist, respectively. However, things start shaking up with the arrival of Mia as their new neighbor, who gets increasingly involved in Jacob and Charlotte’s lives, leading to dangerous consequences.

Moreover, Charlotte’s ex Leo also comes to the scene, which further complicates the relationships.

Let us now explore in detail what happened at the end of The Couple Next Door Season 2.

The following article contains spoilers.

Mia’s identity is revealed at the end of The Couple Next Door 2

With the progression of episodes, Mia’s real identity comes to life, and it is revealed that she is actually Kasia and has been running away from her troubled past. Her parents were criminals, and after they were arrested when she was a child, she eventually ended up under the care of Isaq, a therapist, who actually groomed her.

However, one day, Mia decided to flee Isak, and she did, taking the stolen money that her parents had left behind. While being under the care of Isak, she was a victim of vicious manipulation, and even though they were supposed to be engaged, the whole relationship was based on Isak controlling and dominating Mia, and at one point, she snapped and left.

Jacob turns out to be responsible for the patients’ deaths in The Couple Next Door 2

As Mia started a new life as a nurse where both Jacob and Charlotte worked, three of the patients she was looking after mysteriously passed away. While the blame was being put on Mia, Charlotte had suspicions of her own, and it is ultimately revealed that Jacob was behind the deaths of those three patients, and Mia was innocent.

Jacob orchestrated those deaths in a way that made it seem like Mia was behind them. While the second death happened only out of natural causes, he decided to connect it to the other two deaths he was responsible for so that a pattern could emerge and Mia could be pinned down with the crimes.

However, Charlotte’s suspicion of her husband is proven to be true as Jacob confesses to her about all the deaths. Despite accepting that it is he who is responsible, he seems determined to maintain his charade and therefore poisons Charlotte and writes a suicide note on her behalf, making Charlotte an accomplice in the crimes he had pinned on Mia.

Fortunately, Jacob was eventually caught, and Charlotte also got better. Mia’s name was cleared, and she started a new life as a tour guide while seemingly setting her eyes on a new couple, just like she did with Jacob and Charlotte.
