The Dream Life of Mr. Kim Episode 10 recap: Nak-su confronts the nightmare of his past trauma

The tenth episode of The Dream Life of Mr. Kim begins where things are left off in the ninth episode of the series. The ninth episode ends with a huge cliffhanger, with Nak-su’s fate hanging by a thread after he crashes his car. This episode of The Dream Life of Mr. Kim focuses mainly on Nak-su’s struggles with his past and how he navigates through the new developments in his life.

Nak-su confronts the nightmare of his past trauma in The Dream Life of Mr. Kim Episode 10

In the tenth episode of The Dream Life of Mr. Kim, Nak-su is taken to the hospital after the accident. Ha-jin and his son are called to the hospital to inform them about the accident. Nak-su is disappointed that his wife had to arrive at the hospital so early in the morning because of him. While returning home, he keeps apologizing for it.

Ha-jin then tells Nak-su that he should go to a psychiatrist just as the doctors suggested. However, Nak-su completely dismisses her words and goes to his room to sleep. Soon, a tormenting nightmare begins for Nak-su. In the nightmare, Nak-su begins to experience the events before the accident, where the customer’s behavior pushed him towards a panic attack.

He gets woken up by Su-geom and his wife. Ha-jin then forces Nak-su to go to a psychiatrist. They drive to a hospital where Nak-su thinks that everyone is looking at him and judging, just as he had experienced once before. He tells Ha-jin that they should go somewhere else.

Nak-su puts in the address of Mangjin Plaza and tells Ha-jin to drive him to the location. They arrive at Na Dae-ryong’s clinic above his unit. Initially, Ha-jin is skeptical about the clinic, but Nak-su decides to take a consultation from him. He enters the room and tells Dae-ryong to just pretend to have a consultation for ten minutes, after which he will leave.

However, Dae-ryong begins to point out the panic disorder that Nak-su had when he found out about the scam he was a victim of. It was Dae-ryong who helped Nak-su when he collapsed. He then suggests giving him some medication to help him with the panic disorder. However, Nak-su refuses to take any. He does not believe that he needs any of it.

As the episode of The Dream Life of Mr. Kim progresses, the realtor with whom he talked about a tenant for his unit arrives and tells him about some interested customers. This exposes Nak-su’s secret about buying the unit to Ha-jin. Finding out about the huge loan that Nak-su took, along with the reimbursement money he wasted on the unit, Ha-jin is completely devastated.

Nak-su understands that staying away from home would be a wise decision for now. This is because Ha-jin is angry at him for not discussing the purchase with her. Nak-su decides to spend the night sleeping on the floor of his unit. The next morning, he goes to the washroom of the building to freshen up. He then comes across the doctor.

He tells him that speaking face-to-face about the issues makes him uncomfortable. Dr. Na Dae-ryong suggests that they speak by sitting in two separate washrooms. Nak-su begins to speak about his colleague with whom he joined the company at the same time. He opens up about the pressure he felt at the company.

Dae-ryong slowly understands the root cause of Nak-su’s panic disorder when Nak-su speaks up about his older brother. However, before he is able to probe more into the issue, Nak-su refuses to speak any further. It can be understood that his past trauma, with the constant competition he had with his brother, took a toll on his mental health.

Nak-su decides to meet his brother to ask him if he could sleep on the sofa in his store. The two brothers begin to have a conversation over drinks about their past as this episode of The Dream Life of Mr. Kim progresses. Nak-su begins to ask him about how he feels now that he knows he got fired. However, his brother does not say anything.

Nak-su continues to tell him that he was happy when his brother failed to get into the big university, and how hurt he was when he ate the banana that his parents brought for them. However, Nak-su’s brother tells him that he does not remember any of it. Nak-su then understands that his brother does not remember any of the things that have impacted him in the past. Things that shaped him into the man he is now were completely insignificant to his older brother.

The next day, Ha-jin goes to visit the unit, where she finds out that Nak-su was sleeping on the floor there. A flashback scene appears in this moment in The Dream Life of Mr. Kim, where we see how Nak-su was ecstatic to tell his family that he bought an apartment. He proudly tells them that they should remember the effort he put into buying that apartment.

Ha-jin begins to reminisce about selling the apartment to help Nak-su cope with the loans. On the other hand, while Nak-su is leaving his brother’s store, his brother gives him bananas along with an apology note. He then discusses this with Dae-ryong.

He asks him if he would have turned into a different person if his brother had apologized to him or congratulated him when he became the class vice president. Dae-ryong tells him that the competitiveness he had helped him put food on the table. He also tells him that the love he did not receive from his parents impacted him, so he should show immense love to his son.

This episode of The Dream Life of Mr. Kim ends with Nak-su understanding that he should be more appreciative towards his son and show his love to him. Nak-su and Su-gyeom end up going for Nak-su’s new job as a designated driver together. They spend quality time together. On the other hand-Ha-jin lists their apartment on the website.
