Naksu’s self-confidence turns into his nightmare in The Dream Life of Mr. Kim Episode 5-6
The first four episodes of The Dream Life of Mr. Kim depicted Nak-su’s arrogant nature becoming the driving factor in his condescending behavior towards his family members and even his friends. He desires to gain the respect of others irrespective of his actions. This can be seen in the way he behaves with his family and subordinates at his office.
Episode 5 of The Dream Life of Mr. Kim begins with Nak-su completely taken aback by the situation of his new office at the factory. His task is not to sit inside a beautiful office and order his subordinates around, but actual physical labor, which also involves cleaning the dirt left behind by the dogs.
As the Health and Safety Officer, he does not have a comfortable job. As the episode progresses, his senior gives him a description of his job. He even has to run to the lunch break room for lunchtime; otherwise, he will not get any food.
Nak-su does not believe that he will have to continue working in the factory. While speaking with his wife, he tells her that this situation is temporary. He tells her that he will be back in no time. However, it is not the case, and he will be able to understand it soon.

He begins to imagine that at the main office, the situation will be in complete chaos. He thinks that his superiors will understand that the office cannot work without him and will ask to bring him back. However, when he gets a call from his office, he finds that they are working comfortably without him.
Nak-su’s wife continues preparing for her realtor exam, and her son also keeps working at the company. When Nak-su returns home, he does not find anyone at the house, as both his wife and son are busy. As this episode of The Dream Life of Mr. Kim progresses, Nak-su slowly begins to understand that he will have to continue working here, and neither his family nor the head office needs him back.
He then finds an exile diary where he finds the thoughts of another worker who also got demoted. Nak-su then calls Sung-gu to find out about this worker. Episode 5 ends with Sung-gu informing Nak-su that the person was Executive Director Sim Gang-hun.
Episode 6 of The Dream Life of Mr. Kim begins with Nak-su going for a hike to meet Gang-hun to find out more about how he was able to go back to the head office. Though Gang-hun does not give any proper answer to Nak-su’s queries, he informs him that he should face the challenge head-on and wait for a task that could be his ticket back.
Sung-gu visits the factory and sees the situation that Nak-su is in. On the other hand, Nak-su’s wife is ecstatic about finally being able to pass the realtor exam. She even gets to use her sister’s car, who was looking down upon her, saying that she will not be able to pass the exam. Though Ha-jin is quite happy with her current situation, it is not the same for her son. Her son, Soo-gyeom, finds out that he now has to repay a loan.
After returning home, Nak-su keeps waiting for his wife. They discuss his job, and she tells him not to quit the job. She then informs him about passing the exam. However, Nak-su does not take it well. He begins to react and eventually tells her to leave. While sleeping, Nak-su has a nightmare where his wife runs the household, and then he sees her cheating with some other men. He wakes up worried and begins to run in the rain, screaming.
As the episode progresses, Nak-su goes to have dinner with Jeong-tae, who begins to criticize Nak-su for his incompetence. He then tells him that Nak-su did not change and is still just the same incompetent person. Nak-su is completely shocked at his words and begins to remind him of all the things that he did for him.
They end up fighting with one another right there. Episode 6 of The Dream Life of Mr. Kim ends with Nak-su finally finding out that ACT is downsizing, and he needs to create a crisis so that the company can use it to reduce the number of workers.
