Unlike the nature of Nak-su that we saw at the beginning of The Dream Life of Mr. Kim, it slowly begins to change as the series progresses. In the seventh episode of the series, Nak-su’s selflessness completely transforms him. He was getting pressure from the headquarters to remove twenty people from the factory.
However, when he began this task, the disheartening situation of the employees caused Nak-su to take a different route. The arrogant and self-centered Nak-su decides to give up his own job so that the employees at the factory can get one more year to find other options. However, giving up a job at his age is definitely not an easy task. In episode 8 of The Dream Life of Mr. Kim, the drastic change in his life is depicted.

Nak-su’s selflessness turns into a disaster in The Dream Life of Mr. Kim Episode 8
The eighth episode of The Dream Life of Mr. Kim begins with Nak-su finally taking the step of resigning from his job. He takes his belongings from his office in the factory and leaves. While he is leaving, he is thanked by Ju-yeong for his action to give up his job, which in turn saved the jobs of twenty other employees for one more year.
At the headquarters, his juniors begin to discuss his departure and also get separated because they worked under Nak-su. At his house, Nak-su’s behavior changes completely. Unlike the usual condescending nature that he depicted, he becomes quiet and compassionate. When his son asks to talk to him, he thinks that it is about the money and tells him that he is arranging it.
His son, however, tells him that he does not need the money, as the scammer is caught. On his way to drop his wife off at her interview, Nak-su begins to realize the difficult path he has ahead. He begins to search for other jobs, as the severance fee that he received is not enough to live the rest of his life on.
As the episode of The Dream Life of Mr. Kim progresses, the multiple jobs that Nak-su applied for gave him very low pay, which he could not accept. He understood that getting a job at his age was difficult. While having a drink with his friend, he thinks that he should also try his hand at business. However, his friend stops him, warning that he should not touch his severance pay.
Right then, he remembers the salesman who gave him the offer to invest early so that he could earn six to seven million won in rent. He reaches home with this idea in his mind and begins to look through the advertisements. The next day, he reaches the office of AP Royal, where the salesman tells him that there is only one unit left. He begins to give Nak-su the benefits of the unit, which quickly impresses Nak-su.
Despite the unit being expensive, Nak-su decides to take the unit without even discussing it with his wife. While sleeping, he begins to dream about owning a huge cafe and achieving immense success. The next day, he continues to daydream about owning the new unit and even sends money to his son that he had asked for. Later, the salesman calls him to tell him about giving his unit to a toast shop.
Though he was quite doubtful about giving the large unit to a toast shop, the salesman's incessant persuasion caused him to accept the deal. This episode of The Dream Life of Mr. Kim ends with a disaster for Nak-su. Thinking he is finally on his path to success, he decides to call the salesperson. However, he finds that the number is invalid. Getting an ominous feeling, he even calls the toast owner as well. The man tells him that he does not want to open the shop anymore and even tells him to keep the deposit money, which already begins to sound suspicious.
Nak-su finally realizes that he has been scammed. Just like him, many other people who also invested in the building were also scammed. This episode of The Dream Life of Mr. Kim ends with Nak-su finally realizing what a devastating situation he is in. He sits down on the ground, clutching his chest, and begins to hyperventilate.
