The Dream Life of Mr. Kim Episode 9 recap: Nak-su's life takes a devastating turn

The Dream Life of Mr. Kim is definitely bringing in a fresh look into the world of Nak-su with each episode. After taking his voluntary retirement, Nak-su is now changing quite a lot. He is hardly the condescending person he was at the beginning of the series.

Now, his focus has shifted to finding out his purpose after he finds out that he is not really irreplaceable, as he had thought himself to be. The ninth episode of The Dream Life of Mr. Kim begins where things are left off in the last episode. After finding out that he has wasted all his money on a scammer, his health is taking a toll.

Nak-su's life takes a devastating turn in The Dream Life of Mr. Kim Episode 9

Episode nine of The Dream Life of Mr. Kim begins with Nak-su being taken to the emergency department after he collapses. It cannot be denied that finding out that most of his retirement money is now in the hands of a scammer and he has no way to get it back takes a toll on one’s mind. However, at the hospital, the doctor tells Nak-su that his bodily functions are all doing absolutely fine; however, the same cannot be said for his mental health.

The doctor suggests that Nak-su consult with a psychiatrist. Hearing the doctor’s words, Nak-su begins to fall deep into worry. All of a sudden, the people surrounding him seem to be judging him because of the doctor’s suggestion. Nak-su reacts vehemently and refuses to consult a psychiatrist.

As this episode progresses, Nak-su’s friend arrives to tell him that he should discuss this matter with his wife, which he refuses, knowing she would not be happy. Devastated, he returns home, where Ha-jin gives him the good news. She landed her first contract that day.

Nak-su and Ha-jin celebrate her first win. Nak-su even suggests that she should hang the contract on the wall. This behavior from Nak-su is not something that Ha-jin expected, considering how he behaved when she told him about sitting for the exam. The next day, he gets a call from the hospital.

The hospital associate tells him to pay for his visit. When he reaches the hospital, he decides to pay the amount in cash so that the hospital visitation would not show on his card statement. After paying his hospital bill, he begins to contemplate the procedure that the scammer sales officer used for the whole fraud.

Nak-su gets more and more worried about his economic situation now that most of the money he had is gone. His friend even calls him again to persuade him so that he reveals the truth to his wife. Ha-jin begins to worry about Nak-su’s behavior. She keeps asking if anything was wrong. However, he does not tell her. He then diverts the topic, telling her that he will meet with Sang-cheol.

The next day, he goes to visit Sang-cheol, thinking he would help him with a job. However, Sang-cheol’s behavior has now changed. Later, he goes to the unit that he bought from the scammer salesperson. Right then, Na Dae-Ryong, the psychiatrist who owns a clinic in the same building, comes out to tell him that he should not take rent for the first year; only then will anyone be interested in the place. He even tells him to accept the reality, as he is not doing it, and suggests that he should come by for a chat.

This episode of The Dream Life of Mr. Kim focuses mainly on the struggles that Nak-su goes through while searching for means to earn money. At Sang-cheol’s, Nak-su finally gets a chance to prove his worth when Sang-cheol finds it difficult to get a meeting with ACT. Hearing Nak-su’s suggestion about setting up a meeting with ACT, Sang-cheol offers him a commission if things go right.

Back at his unit, Nak-su comes across a school student coming out of the psychiatrist’s office. Nak-su gets curious when the boy tells him that he should also get himself checked if he feels discomfort. The next day, Nak-su drives Sang-cheol and his wife to ACT to discuss the pitch that Nak-su prepared with all his heart. However, the meeting does not go as planned, after which Sang-cheol humiliates Nak-su. Nak-su realizes that they just used him and leaves.

As this episode of The Dream Life of Mr. Kim progresses, Nak-su begins to feel more and more disheartened by his present situation. His loan repayment date is also arriving soon. At his home, seeing Su-gyeom with the T-shirts that he thinks he will sell to repay the money his father gave him is all boxed up. Nak-su tries to tell his son that he should have focused on his studies instead of this.

However, his son tells him that trying to stay behind the fence does not always protect them, pointing at how Nak-su’s situation turned out. This episode of The Dream Life of Mr. Kim ends with Nak-su deciding to take on the job of a driver. After driving a few people, he finally gets a ride request for 200,000 won.

He reaches the location, which is at the food place where he used to frequent. However, before he is able to take the person to his car, he comes across his ex-colleagues from ACT. While driving, this man to his destination, Nak-su loses control of his car and crashes.
