Stranger Things is all set to premiere with its fifth and final season at the end of this year.

As we inch closer to the end of an era with the cultural juggernaut's end, questions regarding the Duffer brothers' future projects have popped up. In the last decade, the duo has managed to create one of the biggest cultural phenomena.

The duo has some remaining projects with Netflix, but according to reports, they've signed an exclusive four-year deal with Paramount+ to create movies, shows, and other streaming projects.

In a recent conversation with Variety, the Duffer brothers revealed the kind of projects they envision themselves taking up under the Paramount deal. Stranger Things fans can rest well knowing that the duo wants to take everything that made Stranger Things a cultural juggernaut and create an event series that can take over, much like its predecessor.

The Duffer brothers jumping ship from Netflix to Paramount might have come as a shock, considering the success that the duo has attained at the streaming network. However, it was Paramount's prospect of theatrical distribution that had them interested in the deal.

"It’s just something we dreamed about since we were little kids."

So, the brothers are envisioning their production house, Upside Down Pictures, bringing ambitious, bigger-than-life ideas to life and to the theaters. They also went on to add that they were also looking forward to creating television projects in the four-year deal with the production house.

Expanding on what they wanted to create in television, the Duffer brothers revealed they wanted to create projects akin to Stranger Things. They explain that instead of creating 20-episode seasons at CBS under Paramount, they were still focused on creating 8-10 episode-long seasons:

"I get fatigued watching 20-episode seasons. We didn’t grow up interested in any of that. We only watched movies."

It has been a decade since the first season of the show premiered on Netflix, and since then, there have been several instances where it was criticized for the longer waits between seasons. Defending these waits, the brothers added that:

"If TV shows come out every year, it’s diminishing return. I like the buildup."

While it's doubtful that there can be anything as culturally imminent as Stranger Things turned out to be, if there's anyone who can still manage to do it, it's the brilliant minds behind the show itself.

Even though the Paramount+ deal has been announced publicly, the Duffer brothers aren't shifting until April 2026, as they still have some projects pending with Netflix. From Something Very Bad Is Happening and The Boroughs to the animated series Stranger Things: Tales from '85 and an undecided spin-off of Stranger Things, Netflix has not seen the last of the Duffer brothers yet.

The Duffer brothers held back from any spoilers about the upcoming final season, but they did reveal that the Internet and all of its guesses and conspiracy theories about runtimes are way off base.

So, the final season is going to be the biggest surprise yet, to say the least.
