Long-buried truths are set to be explored in the latest psychological drama from Paramount UK titled The Family Secret.
Families can be fragile when bound by lies, and this fragility is especially challenged when the truth surfaces. Such is the tale of Amanda Blakefield, who was leading a relatively normal and happy life with her husband and son until a revelation turned their lives upside down.
Led by Eleanor Tomlinson and Matthew Lewis, this new drama from Paramount UK Network 5 is set to be a gripping four-part mystery.
Here's everything we know about the upcoming drama.
The Family Secret: A Gripping Psychological Drama from Paramount UK
Set in the Northumbrian countryside, The Family Secret follows Amanda Blakefield, played by Eleanor Tomlinson. Amanda is married to Jimmy, played by Matthew Lewis, and the couple has a son, Luke, played by James Younger.
The couple leads a happy life until everything falls apart when Amanda receives her inheritance. She receives this inheritance from a man she has never heard of or seen before. As she investigates this inheritance, Amanda comes in contact with the Worrall family, and its patriarch, Martin Worrall, played by Denis Lawson.
Amanda's life is turned upside down, and her past starts to unravel after coming in contact with the Worrall family, which is bound together by long, deep-buried secrets. Will this family survive the storm that the truth brings to their life in The Family Secret? That remains to be seen.
According to Paramount's Commissioning Editor, Paul Tester:
"The Family Secret explores the fragility of family and the ripple effects of long-buried truths, all anchored by a brilliant cast led by Eleanor Tomlinson. This is a drama that promises to keep audiences hooked from the very first minute."
Written by Aschlin Dutta (The Inheritance, The Feud, and Doc Martin), The Family Secret is set to be directed by Andy de Emmony, who has worked with Dutta on The Feud and has also directed Vigil and The Nest. Dutta will also be joining the project as director. Lesly Douglas and Ellie Hill are set to join as producers for Lonesome Pine, along with Jonathan Ford and Will Stapley as executive producers for Sphere Abacus.
Along with Tomlinson and Lewis, the ensemble also includes Rebecca Front as Fiona Worrall, Martin's wife, and Callum Woodhouse as Anthony Worrall, their son. They will be joined by Stephen Tompkinson as Boots Maddison, a farm worker; Danielle Walters as Amanda's best friend, Sandy; Paula Wilcox as Amanda's mother, Linda; and finally, Nina Wadia as a solicitor named Laura.
The psychological drama is set to be internationally distributed by Sphere Abacus. The Family Secret is reported to be in production and being filmed across Northeast England. It is set to premiere sometime in 2026 on Channel 5.
