Netflix’s Monsters: The Ed Gein Story premiered on October 3, 2025, and tells the story of one of the notorious American serial killers, Ed Gein. The series includes several real-life events from the show and also has several fictionalized sequences. The latest installment of Ryan Murphy’s Monster series presents the life of Ed Gein and his descent into a murderous spree, along with a parallel narrative of how Hollywood films such as Psycho were being inspired by his nefarious activities.

While it showed Gein’s story, the show also had numerous scenes that were depicted as delusions he was experiencing due to Schizophrenia. Among those many sequences, there was a scene in the final episode that would remind you of another popular Ryan Murphy series. In the final scene, Gein experiences deathbed delusions, where he sees several serial killers, such as Charles Manson and Ed Kemper, among others, praising him for his talent.

Ryan Murphy’s other series, AHS: Hotel, also had a similar sequence where serial killers such as Jeffrey Dahmer and John Wayne Gacy, among others, are invited to Hotel Cortez to celebrate their life of crime.

More on this in our story.

Monsters: The Ed Gein Story depicted numerous fictionalized narratives, for instance, Gein being the inspiration for many serial killers after him and being in contact with mass murderer Richard Speck. There is also another sequence where he, in one of his delusions, thinks of helping the FBI in catching Ted Bundy.

However, these are not the only serial killers seen in Monsters: The Ed Gein Story. In the final episode titled The Godfather, in his final moments, he imagines he has seen his mother, and also meets a group of serial killers, who praise him for his work and send him off. Another scene from the series sees a group of teenagers trying to vandalize Ed’s headstone, but are scared off by more serial killers such as Buffalo Bill and Norman Bates.

However, these are not the only times Murphy has united various serial killers in a fictional setting. He has done this previously in his American Horror Story Season 5. AHS: Hotel revolves around the fictional Hotel Cortez, known for the paranormal and disturbing events that occur in its premises.

It is revealed that the Hotel was made by a serial killer himself. James Patrick March (Evan Peters), the owner of the Hotel, killed himself in it and is among several other ghosts who terrorize the place. In Episode 4 titled Devil’s Night, Several serial killers such as Richard Ramirez, Aileen Wuornos, a masked Zodiac Killer, and several others attend March’s annual Devil’s Night dinner to celebrate themselves.

They talk about their achievements, killing people around them when they want, creating a disturbing atmosphere around them. This sequence was one of the first scenes where Murphy brought together the infamous serial killers of the US. Ed Gein’s deathbed hallucination in the Netflix series mirrors this sequence from AHS: Hotel, and has a similar vibe.

Monsters: The Ed Gein Story stars Charlie Hunnam as Ed Gein. Along with him, Suzanna Son, Vicky Krieps, Tom Hollander, and Laurie Metcalf, among others, also star in the Netflix series.
