The stage is set for Starz's Outlander to pass the baton to its prequel spin-off series Blood of My Blood. The historical fantasy series, based on the book series by Diana Gabaldon, debuted in 2014 and will finally come to its conclusion with Season 8.

While Outlander is ready to bid farewell to its fans after eight seasons, its spin-off series will take over and premiere on Starz on August 8, 2025.

Blood of My Blood will follow two epic love stories, of Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire's (Caitriona Balfe) parents, and will also tell the origin story of the clan McKenzie.

To celebrate World Outlander Day on June 1, 2025, and to welcome the spin-off series cast, Starz organized a special event called The Gathering, featuring old and new casts from the franchise.

Hueghan and Balfe welcomed the main characters of Blood of My Blood, which includes Jamie's parents: Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) and Ellen McKenzie (Harriet Slater), and Claire's parents: Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine).

More on this in our story.

Outlander cast welcomed the Blood of My Blood team in a special Starz event

The Gathering was the perfect passing of the torch from the Outlander cast to Blood of My Blood. Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe welcomed their parents and extended family to the clan as the stage is set for two epic love stories to transport the audiences to a historical period again.

Starz The Gathering began with Heughan and Roy on Craigh Na Dun in Scotland, an iconic location for the show, as Claire passes through these stones in Season 1, and the rest is history.

Passing the mantle and setting the stage for the prequel series, Heughan narrates:

''The last 8 seasons of Outlander has been an absolute pleasure but even though we are coming to an end, dinna fash because there's gonna be a lot more epic stories in the prequel Blood of My Blood.''

In addition to passing the baton to the prequel series, the event was also a celebration of Outlander's legacy and its conclusion after eight seasons.

Heughan and Balfe then joined the Blood of My Blood cast in the Great Hall, where they introduced their respective characters and discussed how the prequel series will expand on the lore of the parent series.

When announcing the prequel, showrunner Matthew B. Roberts discussed the series as an exploration of Jamie and Claire's roots:

“We’re thrilled to be telling the stories of these two couples. The origins of their relationships explore universal themes that transcend time periods and we’re so excited for fans to discover and fall in love with these characters and their love stories the way they have with Claire and Jamie."

The prequel series will follow two love stories set in two different eras: one in the Scottish Highlands in the 1700s and the other set amid WWI.

The 1700s timeline will see star-crossed lovers, Brian Fraser and Ellen Mackenzie, fall in love after a chance meeting at the barn. While the McKenzies and the Frasers are shown to be sworn enemies, love will bloom between the young generation, as Hueghan called them:

''Romeo and Juliet of the 1700s!"

In addition to the swooning romance between Jamie's parents, we will also see many Outlander characters from the McKenzie clan in their younger versions.

Blood of My Blood cast will take on iconic roles from the flagship series and bring their younger versions to life.

They also made a short appearance in The Gathering and include Rory Alexander (Murtagh), Sam Retford (Dougal), Conor MacNeill (Ned Gowan), Tony Curran (Lord Lovat), Séamus McLean Ross (Colum), and many more.

Talking about Claire's lineage, the show will follow Henry Beauchamp and Julia Moriston's love story against the backdrop of WWI, where they will form an unlikely bond while writing letters to each other.

Since the parent series did not expand much on Claire's ancestry, it would be a nice opportunity to learn about her parents and their history.

Starz's The Gathering was a special event, that set the stage for these new characters to take over and work their magic, like Hueghan and Balfe did with Jamie and Claire's love story.

Blood of My Blood will premiere on Starz on August 8, 2025.
