The Gilded Age Season 3 Episode 7: A quick recap

In The Gilded Age Season 3 Episode 7, emotions run high as secrets unravel. Mr. Ward McAllister's book on the scandals and secrets of the New York elites gets him banned from the upcoming Newport Ball. Mrs. Astor is still dealing with her daughter Charlotte's divorce, and is planning to cancel the ball when Bertha Russell steps up and says that she's ready to host it, but with a twist: to remove the ban on divorced women.

On the other hand, Oscar mourns John's death, and through John's sister, he comes to know that John has left a property for him. However, unable to bear the pain of losing his partner, he screams and breaks down in front of Ada, Agnes, and Marian. Later, Marian consoles him.

Larry brings good news to George, mentioning that they have found copper in Arizona. George finalizes the deal with Merricks, which leaves Risley Sage jealous, and he fires Clay. However, Larry's personal life is a mess. When he finally meets Marian in school, she shares with him the reason for calling off the engagement. Marian tells him that she knows about his secret trip to the brothel, but even though Larry tries to make her understand, she isn't ready to listen.

Meanwhile, Dr. Kirkland's mother does everything to belittle Peggy. She tells her son about Peggy's past and that she had a child. The episode ends with a cliffhanger. A young deliveryman shoots George Russell.

The Gilded Age Season 3 Episode 7 left viewers on a cliffhanger that will unfold in the season finale. At the end of Episode 7, George Russell was shot point-blank by a mysterious assailant. Will the railroad titan survive? Or is it the end for the Russells? In the preview, George Russell's injured body is brought to their home, where we see Bertha panicking and asking,

"Is he breathing? Please tell me he is breathing."

Meanwhile, Oscar van Rhijn is reeling from the death of John Adams, his secret lover, whose loss finally broke him. After years of quiet suffering, Oscar's breakdown in front of Agnes revealed the cost of living behind a mask. Will he step into the light, or disappear behind societal expectations? We don't know, but as per the preview, it's quite evident that he's not here to be mocked, and he's finally standing up for himself.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Astor isn't quite elated about Bertha removing the ban on divorced women in the Newport Ball as she utters,

"We cannot allow the scourge of divorce to infect the social circles."

The preview also shows Marian and Larry finally having a talk, where we see Marian promising Larry,

"'I would do anything for you. You must know that."

And then there's Bertha Russell, who has conquered the Newport Ball, but at what cost? Her husband is wounded, her son won't speak to her, and society may no longer be enough. Bertha might reach her breaking point in the finale episode of The Gilded Age Season 3.

Peggy Scott, battling romance and rights, will face one last test: a confrontation between her past and her present. Will Dr. William Kirkland accept her after knowing her past?
