The Gilded Age Season 3 has been quite a roller coaster ride for us viewers. Especially considering Gladys’ relationship dynamic with her husband, Hector, her married life, and her mother as well.
The newest episode of The Gilded Age Season 3 showed us that Bertha wanted Gladys to rise on the social ladder and married her off to Hector despite her wish to marry for love. However, after Gladys and Hector return to Hector’s castle, things become even more complicated for Gladys because of Lady Sarah.
Lady Sarah constantly came between Hector and Gladys. Her condescending nature towards Gladys made her feel even more lonely. She understood her mother would be able to help her in this situation, and this led to Bertha’s intervention and a shift in their relationship in The Gilded Age Season 3 Episode 6.
A new side of Bertha and Gladys’ relationship in The Gilded Age Season 3
Bertha wanted her daughter to be happy. However, her methods were not well-received by Gladys. This created a wall between them and inadvertently caused a rift in their mother-daughter relationship.
After Gladys started to suffer because of Lady Sarah, Bertha understood that she needed to help her daughter tackle the situation. This sets the stage for the new development in their relationship. Previously, we only saw a side of Bertha that was focused on making a name in the social circles.
In the newest episode, we see her genuine love and concern for her daughter. She handles Lady Sarah’s situation with tact. She does not come between but rather helps Gladys understand how to manage the situation. She lets her know that she should make herself indispensable to Hector.

The main issue Gladys faced under the constant scrutiny and condescending attitude of Lady Sarah was that she was unable to stand up for herself. Hector also did not interfere in the situation. This made Gladys feel all alone. Bertha’s intervention in this situation helped Gladys.
She is finally able to stand up for herself. Bertha empowered her daughter. This, in turn, created a situation of mutual respect. A level of affection between the mother-daughter duo was created.
Bertha’s support and affection helped Gladys overcome Lady Sarah’s issue. She also becomes much closer to Hector during this time because of Bertha’s help.
The initial moments of The Gilded Age Season 3 made us viewers unsure whether Gladys and Hector would be able to get their happily ever after or not. However, with Bertha’s encouragement and intervention, things definitely look better when it comes to Hector and Gladys’ relationship as well.

Though Bertha was the one responsible for creating this situation by making her daughter marry Hector, she only wanted happiness for her daughter. This recent episode adds to the developing relationship between Bertha and Gladys. The shift in their dynamic truly makes The Gilded Age Season 3 worth watching.
Though the complications with Lady Sarah are still not over, things are definitely looking better for Gladys and Bertha. We can only hope things get better as the newer episodes of The Gilded Age Season 3 come.
The Gilded Age is a series where power plays a significant role. For the first time, Gladys is taking the power; she is taking charge of her house. The mother and daughter are finally meeting as equals, forging a new dynamic that truly shines bright.
