Amazon Prime Video's latest psychological thriller, The Girlfriend, featuring Robin Wright and Olivia Cooke, will premiere on September 10, 2025. All six episodes will drop on the same day, allowing viewers to binge the drama and the thrill all at once. Directed by Robin Wright, the series is based on Michelle Frances' 2018 novel with a similar title.

The series explores the life of Laura, an overprotective mother who suspects her son's new girlfriend, Cherry, is shady. To protect her son, Laura's actions spiral out of control, and she's convinced that Cherry is hiding something.

The trailer opens with Laura's monologue as she says,

"My son, he's always had girlfriends. But I have never heard him speak about anyone like this."

Meanwhile, Daniel, her 23-year-old son (a proud mama's boy), seems to be smitten by Cherry. As he tries to convince his mother by complimenting his new girlfriend, he says,

"She's ambitious, funny, stunning, insanely clever, she's perfect."

The tension and the power play between Laura and Cherry is quite visible throughout the trailer. The trailer ends with Laura asking her son:

"She reminds you of me?"
