It's been a few years since the Soul Squad parted ways to lead new lives. Through that ending, The Good Place became one of the shows that didn't overstay their welcome and ended on a satisfying note.

In the end, Michael (Ted Danson) became a human, whereas Tahani (Jameela Jamil), Chidi (William Jackson Harper), Eleanor (Kristen Bell), and Jason (Manny Jacinto) also found what they were seeking through their philosophical detours. On the other hand, Janet (D'Arcy Carden) stayed back to guide humans in their afterlives.

At the time, it made sense to end their arcs at this point. So, no matter how badly fans want to see the cast reunite for another adventure, it should feel justified in the story. D'Arcy Carden reveals what she believes could make sense for such a reunion, and it has to do with finding a story that wouldn't cheapen what the show has already achieved. The actress told Collider,

"[It would be] something about Michael's story. Now I'm talking story as opposed to the world, but 'I'm not Mike Schur' is what the real answer is. I know he and those writers could definitely come up with great reasons to bring us all back together, and sort of even have."

She also added,

"We’ve definitely joked about who we would want to follow. There's so much to that story, whether it be the afterlife or in the real world, there are so many places you could go. 'Oh, the places you can go.' And the great characters. It's so special that I wouldn't want to do anything that cheapened it."

The Good Place may find a way to bring back its characters, but their return needs to serve a purpose

The Good Place left its characters at a far different point than they began at in the show's pilot episode. Ted Danson's character, Michael, experienced probably the most significant transformation. He began his journey, pretending to be a host at The Good Place, only to reveal his true colors through the schemes he had been plotting for a long time.

In the end, Michael learnt so much from the flawed humans who arrived in the afterlife to right their wrongs. Eventually, he realized how to live as a human and arrived on Earth. While showrunner Michael Schur presented it in a vibrant, colorful world, he dealt with bleak themes while dealing with the philosophical aspects of their choices and consequences.

Keeping all that in mind, there could be a future for The Good Place, potentially a spin-off, whether in the afterlife or the real world. D'arcy Carden feels it should be justified through Schur's story, but she is open to a reunion.

In line with this, she told Collider,

"I love those people. I want to get back to it with them immediately. What would justify it? This is the problem, it's like all I want to do is be on that set with those people, but also, when we ended, I was like, 'Yeah.' Even though I’m like, 'I want to do this for 10 more years,' when Mike [Schur] said, 'I think let's end it at four instead of five,' when he was like, 'We've decided that the story is complete here,' I was so impressed. I respected it so much."

Hence, a reunion is possible if all the things fall in the right place. Until then, fans can return to the show and rewatch.
