The Great British Bake Off Season 16 Episode 4: Highlights from the Signature challenge

For the latest episode's Signature challenge, show hosts Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding welcomed the remaining nine bakers. Judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood were also present in the tent.

Soon, The Great British Bake Off hosts announced the Signature challenge in their unique and quirky way.

"For your first school time bake, Miss Leith and Miss Hollywood would love you to make a batch of 12 identical flapjacks. Your flapjacks will need classic oaty base, but also an extra filling or topping. You've got two hours," announced co-host Noel Fielding.

Sharing more about the reason behind the Signature challenge, one of the judges, Prue Leith, confessed to the cameras:

"This is back-to-school week. It's all about reinventing bakes that you had at school. Only this time making them really, really good."

Fellow judge Paul Hollywood was looking forward to seeing how bakers would use the sugar and maintain the sweetness in the flapjacks.

While bakers began preparing their customized flavors of flapjacks, judges and hosts paid them brief visits. Each of the bakers had a unique flavor in mind, along with a particular shape and the way they wanted to present it.

Along with the flapjacks, bakers were also supposed to have their "delicate decorations" and "tantalizing toppings" on them. Later, when most of the bakers were taking their baked flapjacks out of the microwave, Lesley was preparing hers to put inside to bake.

While taking her flapjacks out of the mold, The Great British Bake Off's Nataliia accidentally broke it in half. Paul was standing right by her side when it happened. By the end of the challenge, everyone rushed to complete their decorations and icing.

For the Signature challenge, bakers prepared:

  1. Tom's Apple Crumble Flapjacks,
  2. Toby's Carrot Patch Flapjacks,
  3. Iain's Banana Jacks Flapjacks,
  4. Jasmine's Raspberry, Chocolate, and Hazelnut Flapjacks
  5. Aaron's Lat Snacks Flapjacks,
  6. Nataliia's First Day Flapjacks,
  7. Lesley's Dan's Cherry Bakewell Flapjacks,
  8. Nadia's Cherry and Coconut Flapjacks,
  9. Jessika's Red Wine Rendevous Flapjacks,

Judges tasted individual bakers' flapjacks and shared their opinions about flavors, textures, sweetness, and other aspects.
