The Great British Bake Off Season 16 Episode 9's first challenge was the Signature Challenge. The bakers were tasked with baking two batches of cream horns.

"For your semi-final Signature, the judges would like you to bake two batches of six elegantly decorated cream horns," announced the hosts.

The horns should also have a laminated pastry cone filled with creamy filling. Each batch was supposed to have at least two complementary fillings. For that, they had two hours and forty-five minutes.

The bakers began their preparations. One of the judges, Prue Leith, noted that they were looking forward to finesse, delicacy, and great flavors. She added that it was a difficult challenge.

"It's all about finding out who has got what it takes to get to the final," added Prue Leith.

While rolling out their dough for fluffy layers, bakers faced the temperature issue. Due to the heat, the butter continued to melt. After rolling and putting the horns to bake, they worked on their fillings.

After the time was over, The Great British Bake Off judges arrived to taste the semi-finalists' cream horns.

  • Jasmine: Mocha and Raspberry Pistachio Cream Horns,
  • Toby: Chocolate, Coffee, and Lemon Meringue Pie Cream Horns,
  • Tom: Chocolate, Orange, and Lemon Raspberry Cream Horns,
  • Aaron: Puddings Reimagined Cream Horns.

Toby was up first. Paul liked the look of the horns. He also mentioned the color, which was not dark enough. He praised the flavors and the lamination on Toby's baked horns. Prue also talked about the texture, which was too hard, but she loved the flavors.

Tom was next. Prue loved the fillings and the flavors. Both judges pointed out that Tom's horns were not flaky, but rather cakey. For his second flavor, judges enjoyed the combination of flavors but noted that the horns were dry.

Prue and Paul loved Aaron's cream horns. They applauded the flavors, texture, baking, and taste.

"Both of these flavors are absolutely delicious," noted Prue Leith.

Seeing Jasmine's colorful cream horns, Prue noted that they looked lovely, interesting, and neat. While cutting them in half, Paul noted that the flake was nice. Prue enjoyed the strong coffee flavor. Paul also loved the flavor and taste.

"Well done, Jasmine! That is really good. Balance of flavors. The raspberry is great. Pistachio is terrific. And I think the pastry is nicely baked. I think you've done a really good job. And they look pretty," shared Prue Leith.

In her private confession, Jasmine shared that she was very happy when she heard the flake. It was when Paul cut one of the horns and appreciated the texture.
