Dessert Week on The Great British Baking Show 2025 increased stress levels.

With only five bakers left and 3 episodes remaining, the tent seemed more like a powdered sugar battleground than a bake-off. Judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith presented three mind-bending, butter-melting challenges, while Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding attempted to save everyone and their soufflés from falling.

Iain, a 29 year old software engineer from Belfast, was the one who had to hang up his apron. His trifle was magnificent, with layers but evidently beauty can't hide blandness. The judges called his flavors flat, sealing his fate.

Meanwhile, Jasmine continued her dessert domination, snagging her 4th Star Baker crown and inching closer to show history. The bakers also faced Basque cheesecakes that flirted with being burnt, and a Technical that dared them to bake gluten-free without losing their minds. The Showstopper demanded architecturally sound free-standing trifles that combined structural integrity with exceptional taste. Only four contestants now remain in contention for the crown.

Ian’s elimination from The Great British Baking Show explored

Iain left the competition following Week 8 of The Great British Baking Show, marking the end of his journey in the quarter finals.

"I didn't think I would make it this far, I never thought I would make it past the first couple of weeks," Iain reflected after his elimination.

He expressed gratitude for advancing to the quarter-finals, calling it something he never imagined possible.

"We have had the best group of bakers. We have made really good friends, and we always have a laugh. It's just been fantastic," he said.

In his final challenge, his free-standing trifle lacked the flavor profile necessary to keep him in contention against four strong competitors.

Jasmine earned Star Baker distinction for the fourth time this season. The medical student's constant excellence has cemented her as the clear frontrunner. Her participation in all three Dessert Week tasks showcased technical expertise and artistic vision. The judges gave her first prize, highlighting her better execution over the other bakers. With four wins, Jasmine is one win away from equalling the show's record of five Star Baker crowns in a single season.

The Signature Challenge included Basque cheesecakes that deviated significantly from their conventional New York equivalents. Higher baking temperatures result in caramelised, nearly charred tops and custard-like cores. The sides harden and roast, while the interior stays soft and somewhat mushy. Prue designed the Technical Challenge around gluten-free baking. The Great British Baking Show contestants unfamiliar with alternative ingredients faced difficulties as gluten-free baking requires different scientific approaches than standard flour-based recipes. The Showstopper required elaborate free-standing trifles that balanced architectural stability with flavor complexity.

Who made it to the semi-finals?

Aaron, Jasmine, Toby, and Tom survived Dessert Week on The Great British Baking Show and will compete in the upcoming semifinal episode. Each baker must deliver flawless performances as the margin for error continues to lessen with every passing week.

The Great British Baking Show is streaming now on Netflix.
