James Remar is back to playing Harry Morgan in Dexter: Resurrection. The actor debuted the character in the original Dexter series and became one of the fan favorites during the show’s seven-year-long run.

Harry is Dexter’s dead father, whose visuals still guide the serial killer. The franchise recently got a prequel series, titled Original Sin, which showcased Dexter in his younger days, when his father was still around him physically.

In the prequel, Harry is played by actor Christian Slater. James Remar has now reacted to Christian playing a younger version of his character in Original Sin, while he reprises his role in Dexter: Resurrection. At the San Diego Comic-Con 2025, Remar said that he has known Christian for decades, and he is proud of the actor’s work as Harry:

“I’ve known Christian since 1988. We were in a movie called Tales from the Darkside together… I was very proud [when I found out he would be playing Harry]… the guy is amazing.”

Harry Morgan’s journey in Dexter: Resurrection and Original Sin

After being missing in action in the miniseries Dexter: New Blood, Harry Morgan returns in Dexter: Resurrection as the titular serial killer’s internal Dark Passenger, who guides him through his new life in New York. While Dexter recovers from a coma, Harry urges him to return to his purpose.

When Dexter learns that his son Harrison has killed someone, Harry pushes him to mentor the boy. Dexter resists at first as he wants to protect Harrison from the darkness he once embraced. But Harry's influence grows stronger as Dexter uncovers the truth about a new killer targeting rideshare drivers.

As Dexter returns to his old habits, Harry becomes his voice of reason. Meanwhile, in Dexter: Original Sin, it is revealed how Harry Morgan plays a crucial role in initiating Dexter’s violent path. After a near-fatal heart attack, Harry allows Dexter to kill Mary, a nurse who has been secretly poisoning patients.

This moment marks Dexter’s first kill and begins his evolution into a serial killer who targets other killers. Harry, haunted by the death of his biological son and overwhelmed by guilt, devotes himself to guiding Dexter's darkness. He introduces Dexter to law enforcement through friends like Angel Batista and helps cover up early murders.

As Dexter starts working with Miami Metro, Harry supports him while trying to maintain a sense of morality, even though it affects his relationship with Debra. Through flashbacks, we learn Harry had an affair with Laura Moser, Dexter’s biological mother, and helped orchestrate a sting operation that indirectly led to her death.

Apart from James Remar, Dexter: Resurrection stars Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan, David Zayas as Angel Batista, Jack Alcott as Harrison Morgan, Uma Thurman as Charley, Peter Dinklage as Leon Prater, Emilia Suárez as Elsa Rivera, Dominic Fumusa as Detective Melvin Oliva, Kadia Saraf as Detective Claudette Wallace, and Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Blessing Kamara.

On the other hand, Dexter: Original Sin stars Patrick Gibson as Dexter Morgan, Christian Slater as Harry Morgan, Molly Brown as Debra Morgan, James Martinez as Angel Batista, Reno Wilson as Bobby Watt, Alex Shimizu as Vince Masuka, and Christina Milian as María LaGuerta.

Dexter: Resurrection airs new episodes on Paramount+ with Showtime on Fridays.
