O-T Fagbenle, the actor who played Luke Bankole on The Handmaid’s Tale, expressed his disappointment over Elisabeth Moss missing out on an Emmy nomination in the show's 6th and final season. He considers it "a tragedy" while also emphasising how incredible she is.

During the Splitsville premiere in Los Angeles on a Tuesday, the actor, while speaking about the 2025 Emmy nominations, expressed how Moss, despite her long-standing acclaim as the lead actress in the show, did not receive an entry in the Emmys for the final season.

Instead, the only nomination from the show was a guest actor, Cherry Jones. Read on to know what more The Handmaid’s Tale co-star said about the same.

After nine years leading Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, Elisabeth Moss will not receive an Emmy nomination for the show’s sixth and final season. This stands out as a surprising omission that has left her co-star O-T Fagbenle dismayed. At the Los Angeles premiere of his new film, Splitsville, Fagbenle said,

“It’s a tragedy...It’s an absolute tragedy. I just think she’s incredible.”

The Handmaid's Tale once dominated the Emmys with a total of 76 nominations and winning 15, including one for Outstanding Drama Series in earlier seasons. Therefore, this recent snubbing was particularly surprising, something Fagbenle clearly feels strongly about.

However, Moss has been nominated four times for outstanding lead actress in a drama series and also won the award in 2017. She also took home another Emmy as a producer when The Handmaid's Tale earned the top prize for outstanding drama. The show's sixth and final season only got one nomination in Emmy's that too for outstanding guest actress in a drama series.

While speaking with Variety about the wrapping up of The Handmaid’s Tale, Moss said that she was part of the show for 9 years, and now leaving it would be difficult.

“It’s not a part of my life, this show, it has been my life for nine years. I’m so close to it, and so close to June that I don’t know how to talk about it, because there’s no separation.”

Next in Fagbnele's list is Splitsville, a comedy show starring Dakota Johnson, Michael Angelo Covino, Adria Arjona, and Kyle Marvin. The show follows a couple who are in an open relationship. Fagbenle, when first reading the script, found it "hilarious" and recalls how many people are now questioning monogamy.

“I read [the script] and I was like This is so hilarious,” Fagbenle said. “It’s also of the moment. I have so many friends who are talking about these things. A lot of people are talking about monogamy and relationships and the challenges of that. It seems to be one of the topics of the day.”

The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards will take place on Sept. 14 in Los Angeles, per reports.
