The Haunted Palace on Netflix marks K-pop idol-turned-actor Bona’s return to the small screen after her 2024 drama titled Pyramid Game. Bona’s character is named Yeo Ri, and she is the granddaughter of a reputed shaman.

The other lead in The Haunted House is Yook Sung-jae, who plays the double role of Yoon Gab and an evil spirit named Gang Cheol. As Yoon Gab gets possessed by Gang Cheol, Yeo Ri comes to his rescue, and that forms the crux of the story.

The Haunted Palace premiered on April 18, 2025, and follows a weekly release schedule with new episodes coming out every Friday and Saturday.

More about The Haunted Palace

Directed by Yoon Sung-sik, The Haunted Palace is written by Yoon Soo-jung, and cast members, besides Bona and Yook Sung-jae, include Kim Ji-hoon, Gil Hae-yeon, Kim Sang-ho, Shin Seul-ki, among others.

Talking about what inspired her to write the show, Yoon Soo Jung told Soompi,

“The initial idea came while I was co-writing ‘The King’s Face.’ Looking through reference materials at the time, I thought, ‘The palace must be full of vengeful spirits.’ That one line of thought, which I held onto for a long time, became the starting point for ‘The Haunted Palace,’ which I began planning about five years ago.”

She further added,

“The concept of a love-hate relationship involving a female shaman and a man possessed by an Imugi came to me while I was pondering how to make a historical drama with occult elements more entertaining and accessible to a broader audience.”

She also mentioned her impression of the cast and praised them, saying,

“Yoon Gap (Gang Cheol) and Yeo Ri are very difficult characters to portray. Yoon Gap (Gang Cheol) is a dual role and requires a range of emotions from comedy to action and deep emotional acting. Yeo Ri must have the heroic charisma to confront evil spirits while also being lovely enough to fit into a rom-com. After watching the edited cuts, I was so impressed with how perfectly Yook Sungjae and Kim Ji Yeon pulled off their roles.”

With new episodes airing weekly, The Haunted Palace has already been quite popular among the audience. Eight episodes have already aired, and the story has moved forward at a fast pace. The 8th episode revealed that Yeo Ri's grandmother was killed by Paekchowki, an evil fire spirit. As Yeo Ri comes to know about this, she vows that she will avenge her grandmother.

The Haunted Palace Episode 9 will be picking up the story from here, keeping up with the main plotline involving Yeo Ri helping Yoon Gab and his possession.
