Netflix's Norwegian series, Home for Christmas, starring Ida Elise Broch, is coming back for Season 3. This romantic drama follows the life of a 30-something Johanne, a hard-working nurse who struggles to find a boyfriend for Christmas Eve. She tries her luck but fails each time. Per Olav Sorensen serves as the director, while Andres Tangen is the producer.
The first season starts with Johanne promising her family that she will bring her boyfriend for Christmas dinner. The only twist? She isn't dating anyone. She starts speed dating to find a boy who will accompany her to dinner. In the process, she meets several guys, some sweet, some weird, and some not her type. In short, she keeps scrambling for a partner until Christmas dinner. It's relatable and a must-watch holiday watch for those who haven't seen it yet.
Home for Christmas Season 3 is all set to drop on December 12, 2025, on Netflix. Here's a quick recap of Home for Christmas, Season 1 and 2.
Home for Christmas Season 3: Where Johanne stands at the moment
All through the previous seasons, we have seen Johanne searching for his perfect partner who would accompany her to the family dinner on Christmas. At the end of Season 2, she reconnects with Jonas, the 19-year-old who previously left Johanne to study in Bali but came back. Even though he went away abruptly, he understood Johanne the best.
The new season trailer teases aftershocks. It seems like everything's not going too well for Johanne and Jonas. Meanwhile, her parents' shaky bond, her changing friendships, and the stupid deadline to find a partner before Christmas are too much for Johanne to handle. But the season also hints at a reflective Johanne who wants a partner, yes, but doesn't want to contort herself to meet a deadline for her family's approval.
Home for Christmas Season 1 recap
The series begins with Johanne improvising a lie that would haunt her for the next few days. She claims that she has a boyfriend and would bring him for Christmas dinner. This impulsive slip sets the tone for the season.
Johanne works through speed dates and app matches to find a suitable partner. What Season 1 captures perfectly is that Johanne's growing clarity about what she didn't want. From Stein's competitive skiing to Henrik's detached confidence to the young Jonas, every encounter forces her to confront what's right for her and what's not.
By Christmas, Johanne shows up with no partner, but she invites her roommate's clown boyfriend and a beloved elderly patient. The season ends with her finding 100 roses on her doorstep.
Home for Christmas Season 2 recap
Season 2 takes a jump forward. This season begins with Johanne reconnecting with Henrik, a doctor whom we met in Season 1. But soon Johanne realizes that Henrik's controlling habits are a big no for her.
When it clashes with her independence, she decides to step out of the relationship. After their breakup, when she goes to enquire whether he sent those 100 roses, she's stunned to see that he has already moved on.
Into that emotional mess walks two new possibilities: the gentle, slightly awkward Knut and a divorced neighbor, Nick. But the real shift comes when Jonas resurfaces, now older, steadier, and candid about his lingering feelings. He confessed to sending those roses, reopening a chapter that Johanne thought was closed. At the end, she visits Jonas at the hospital and they share a quiet moment, teasing a new beginning.
