The Housemaid's sequel is now officially greenlit by Lionsgate. Buoyed by the film’s strong box office performance, The Housemaid’s Secret will pick up the second entry from Freida McFadden’s popular book trilogy.
The Housemaid, starring Euphoria actor Sydney Sweeney and directed by Paul Feig, has earned $133 million globally in its initial phase. That box office performance alone was buoyant enough for the sequel, which has been in development for several months and is looking to kickstart production later this year.
The Housemaid sequel is officially greenlit and will feature Sydney Sweeney
The film grossed $75.7 million in North America against a $35 million budget, where Millie, played by Sydney Sweeney, is a young woman who tries to step up from her troubled past. She takes a live-in housemaid job for a rich and polished Winchester couple: Nina, played by Amanda Seyfried, and Andrew, played by Brandon Sklenar.
The film offers a thrilling experience with its schemes, seductive chase of power, and buried violence. The film ends with Millie still on her hunt for a new job, set to Taylor Swift’s Reputation track “I Did Something Bad."
This song was perfect as a needle drop that doubles as a mission statement. Those behind the lens and in the decision-making chambers have also shared their opinions.
Sydney Sweeney is best known for Euphoria. But she plays Millie in The Housemaid without leaning on big emotional moments. She keeps things quiet and deliberate, letting the character’s choices maintain a suspenseful edge throughout the film.
Creative forces have spoken on the sequel to The Housemaid

Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson highlighted how the decision came from a natural audience appetite who enjoyed the first title. Therefore, this decision is not an obligation but something they had taken, keeping viewers in mind:
“It’s clear from both the global box office and from the outpouring on social media that audiences have responded strongly — and audibly — to the totally unique and truly theatrical experience of The Housemaid and want to know what happens next.”
He also shared how they have always believed in these stories from the very conception. The excitement was palpable in his further statements as the next chapter got officially confirmed. He brought the cast into the spotlight, crediting them as outstanding creative forces who shaped the success with their performances.
He added,
"Millie’s story to life on-screen in collaboration with our outstanding creative partners Todd, Paul, Laura, Carly, Alex, and Sydney,”
The Chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group further added what the house wants to bring to its audience in the story's second chapter. With this, it sets the tone for the sequel:
“The Housemaid’s Secret’ is another wildly thrilling book in Freida’s series that has captivated readers worldwide, and we look forward to translating it into a similarly rousing and riotous moviegoing experience.”
