Malin Åkerman talks about her character, Margo, and The Hunting Wives

About her character, Margo, Malin Åkerman has only positive things to say. In her interview with Variety, she says she is enamored by Beth Dutton from ‘Yellowstone. She adds,

“And then this came along and I went, ‘Yep, this’ll work. I can do this one.’ This is a bit more soapy, but just so much fun to play,” says Åkerman, who grew up watching similarly striking characters on the original “Dynasty” and “Dallas.”

If you have watched The Hunting Wives, then you must have felt the raw power and depth Margo’s character exudes. She is the leader of the housewives and rightfully so.

Her words and the manner in which she carries herself show us how different and enigmatic she is. Margo’s growing bond and the ultimate affair with Sophie eventually led to many complications in the story. Not just one, the series showed us many more murders, and each one came with a layer of complications.

Though the series is based on a novel by May Cobbs, the creator, Rebecca Cutter, did not shy away from showing a deeper dive into the political landscape of the situation. We see quite a stark distinction between the conservatives and the liberals. But according to Malin Åkerman, it is more of a social commentary. She adds,

“It feels very cliquey. And the things that people put importance on, the backstabbing that goes on, and the hypocrisy — you have all these churchgoers who really are not leading by example when it comes to what the church stands for. So, we will see what people think, but I definitely loved that we had all points of view coming at us, and leaving it open for conversation and consideration of what people feel is right or wrong.”

If we see the series, then Malin Åkerman’s words resonate deeply. The characters in the series desire power and strength. They enjoy being in a position of power. Despite their wrongdoings, they hardly want to go through the consequences.

The hypocrisy is very much prevalent throughout the series. Especially in how the characters depict themselves. This can be seen in Margo’s character. She hides her hypocrisy well and has no issue doing everything she can to maintain her position.

Margo is undoubtedly a sexually liberated character. She does not hide it from Sophie and openly tells her about her open marriage with Jed. Malin Åkerman says,

“So I just think that Margo is a master manipulator, and she is this sexually free woman, and that is who she really is at the core. She uses her sexuality as her power, and no faith is going to get in the way of that, for sure.”

This sums up Margo’s character in a proper manner in The Hunting Wives.

When asked about her opinions on Margo’s political ideals in The Hunting Wives, Malin Åkerman says,

"Everything is an agenda for Margo, so I would take everything she says with a grain of salt, which is what makes it hard to know what her intentions were with Sophie from the beginning and what they are now.”

It is truly intriguing how she dives deep into Margo’s character in The Hunting Wives and explains her thoughts. Her passion and dedication for her role truly shine through, especially because of her performance and her detailed analysis of her character as well.
